2. Lord. This is sickening.
There are so many young people in our society that are just rudderless. I know there are many parents who do a good job, but stories like this and the one where the girl this week was driven to suicide by her classmates. Where are these children's parents and what are they teaching them at home. We know the lessons that they appear to not be learning, but are they hearing them to begin with?

8. "Where Are These Childrens' Parents"
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 12:44 PM by NashVegas
Ain't that the elephant in the room.

Many of these kids' parents are too busy just trying to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table, etc, to teach their children how to not rip each other to shreds.

I thank god there was no internet around to spread free porn and sexploits when I was a kid. I have no doubt at all that one of my brothers would have let his friends do anything they wanted.

12. That argument is complete and utter BS.
There are plenty of us out here who raised children to be responsible and worked just as hard. I held down a full-time job and went to graduate school full-time and that job and my studies had no overlap. I did this while single parenting two children. I made it a point to keep track of my kids and make certain they learned life lessons as well as their academic lessons. They were extremely successful children and are extremely successful adults. They learned not to lie, cheat, steal, or bully early on. They learned to demonstrate responsibility for their behavior and possessions and they learned respect for others. They learned that there are consequences for misbehavior. Yes, it is the parents' responsibility, first and foremost, so socialize their children.

25. We live in a selfish society...
where many "parents" look upon their kids as after thoughts.

17. I guess you didn't see the post about the parents of one of the bullies
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 01:37 PM by Cleita
who blamed the victim, (regarding the girl who committed suicide because she was bullied) saying their daughter never touched her, she just said hurtful things to her. If the parents condone their child's hateful words, that kid seems to have no guidance whatsoever.

19. Still why can the bully not say that, yet Fred Phelps says the same and worse and is protected by
the First Amendment?

21. I don't think Phelps is protected by the First Amendment. I believe the
law has been interpreted wrongly by our justice system. I would like to see it tested one of these days. I know Phelp's got away with a lawsuit, but that was in civil court. I want to see this tested in criminal court but after the Supreme Court becomes a rational branch of justice again.

5. Probably sooner rather than later
That girl is a ruined life that will do nothing but ruin as many others as possible on her walk through this existence.

7. Well, since what she did is sooo heinous, one suspects she may have been abused herself...
... early on. However, that's no excuse for selling your child sister to sicko gang rapers, and covering for it by instructing her to allow the boys to do whatever.

This makes me think of another time at another online forum there was a news story dealing w/sorority members who set up pledges to be gang banged or date raped, and since the idea of women promoting sexual violence among other women is such a perversion of the humane ideals, and realistically, the gender/cultural propaganda that many unquestioningly abide and that most of us were raised with, many people remained in denial that such things even go on since that reality clashes in stark contrast to favored, illusory belief systems (and mind you that's coming from someone who believes that women are generally more moral, tolerant and conscientious then men). It's that same mental stumbling block people hit when encountering what the establishment assures them are 'crazy conspiracy theories' in the face of unfavorable data..."unfavorable" meaning it doesn't gel w/common perceptions

20. Actually, there IS an excuse for it.
Whether or not people want to accept it is another matter.

People who are sexually abused over long periods of time often have that abuse "normalized". It simply becomes part of their daily activities, and the individual events lose their signifigance. In fact, it's this normalization that often creates the most psychological damage after the abuse stops later, as the victims start blaming themselves for not resisting more or are consumed with guilt for not opposing it at all. That type of guilt and shame can take decades to erase.

When a child who has become normalized to sexual abuse is put into a prolonged relationship with another child who has not been sexually abused, it highlights for the abused child the fact that they are NOT in a normal situation. This can begin to trigger the psychological trauma that normally follows the cessation of sustained sexual abuse, and the abused child is forced to deal with the reality of their previous situation. Without the support of counselors or parents, that trauma can manifest itself in a number of ways.

One of the most common ways for children to deal with trauma is to try and box it away or ignore it. They will often go to great lengths to do so, even encouraging the victimization of other children. After all, if EVERYONE is abused, that means that the abused child is "normal" again and doesn't have to face reality. It's an escape and coping mechanism.

It's tragic, but this sort of thing has been seen in many, many cases of sexual abuse. It's really not that uncommon for sexually abused children to encourage their abusers to also abuse siblings or friends, because it makes the abused child feel more "normal". When "everyone" is being abused, the abused child doesn't feel as ashamed.

Sadly, these children often have a far more difficult time recovering later, because they not only have to face the reality of their abuse when they get older, but the guilt and shame associated with them bringing others into the abuse. Children have been so consumed by guilt afterward that they actually committed suicide.

I have a hard time beleiving that a 15 year old girl would be working as a prostitute without some sort of abuse being involved. Given that, I'll reserve judgement in this case. I was molested as a kid, and I get how badly it can fuck with your perception of reality and societal norma.

22. I'll re-phrase that then, *in my opinion* prior abuse isn't an excuse for this
To be sure there are scores of people in your situation, as there are people working in various professional capacities who see this sort of abuse regularly, and can, one hopes, best approach those afflicted and victimized by it. I realize that abuse often begets further, cyclical abuse, etc...but upon reading the article - that certainly doesn't paint the entire picture - it struck me that I was reading about people who are beyond hope. Groups of people gathered to fuck fifteen and seven yr olds sounds horrendously ugly, and in my book, the fifteen yr old doesn't get a free ride for turning a considerably younger child over to this group due to the prior abuse she's likely experienced.

23. Again, though, the argument goes back to normalization.
Kids want to think they're normal. If the 15 year old was herself sexually abused as a 7 year old, that may in fact BE part of her "normal". To her, a seven year old having sex may be no more abnormal than a 15 year old screwing 5 guys for profit.

The solution isn't to lock her in a cage, it's to get her the psychological help and counseling she needs to confront her abuse and correct her perspective.

I don't believe in throwing kids away. Especially not kids who commit horrendous acts because of behavior ingrained into them by others. The first step should ALWAYS be intensive counseling, and for a kid this far gone, probably detainment in a psychiatric facility. Let them try to fix her first. If she can't be fixed, if the abusive mentality is too ingrained to be overcome, THEN let's talk about isolating her from society.

First and foremost, however, we have to remember that we're talking about TWO abused children here, not one. They should both be treated as victims.

10. Ok, I'm gonna sound like a heartless dick here but...
I'm thinking this 15 year old girl having sex for money with multiple partners may have a lot of issues herself. Selling her 7 year old sister is horrendous, but this 15 year old may need a little help too.

13. Not heartless to say that.
She's a child too. Any child pimping out another child, especially her sister, has some serious problems that need addressing. Even if she wasn't engaging in prostitution herself.

Horrible situation.
