Cindy Sheehan
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 12:02 PM by H2O Man
is going to be in our area on April 8 & 9. My daughter Chloe, who many DUers will recall, wants me to take her to meet Cindy. I'd like to meet her, too.

If any of Cindy's friends are still on DU, and read this, I'd much appreciate if you could let her know that H2O Man will be bringing his daughter to the book signing at River Read Books in Binghamton.

here in SF -- she is a real hero. I hope Cloe and you have a fantastic time at the signing -- be sure to let us know how it went and to post any pix! :hi:

3. Good for Chloe. How marvelous that she understands
enough to want to meet who to me, too, is an American heroine.

And how doubly marvelous that you are well enough to take her.
Happy Easter to you and your family.

20. I remember a few years back,
at the end-of-the-school-year awards ceremony, the teacher giving out the awards said that if any one person could save the world, it would be Chloe. Lots of responsibility with a kid like that. I am confident that not only will she like Cindy, but that Cindy will enjoy meeting her just as much.

23. This gives me chills.
It's how it is, when we have a child that came in where nature and nurture are in synch.
You have more than one of those, because I remember well your son's post to this board when you were sick.

H2O Man - you are blessed.
Unless Cindy is pre-occupied, or stressed, she will immediately recognize the kindred spirit in Chloe.

I think that perhaps, if Cindy is pre-occupied or stressed, she will be very likely to recognize Chloe. I could tell you (and DU) some stories.

I was thinking about her the other night, remembering how she embraced the other parents of children killed in war and her vigil at Crawford. I'll always love her and believe in her cause. Dana ; )

When I went with my son to her book signing on Long Island a few years ago, they were out in force. Cindy miraculously maintained her calm and answered their questions.

As I sometimes say, as a general rule, compared to my friend the Hurricane, I am nothing if not the Sugarcane. But there are exceptions to that. I was pleased that this thread didn't have nonsense added, in an attempt to stir the pot.

17. I was just thinking about her this past weekend...
As I passed the local hospital where her mother was for so long... and as I passed the park where my daughter attended her first vigil... we marched in silence in a candlelight vigil in support of Cindy.

It's good to see other parents passing the torch.

Tears welling as I recall Cindy's pain... it's never over when you lose a child. Never.

stayed to speak with anyone who wanted to meet her.
I gave her a hug. We both had tears in our eyes.

I think it should fairly easy to meet her. Good luck!

27. Wow! Not a naysayer in sight!
At this juncture, someone usually pokes their head out to decry Cindy for having the temerity to call out the current reigning wing of the War Party. Nice to see a difference.

Bless you, Mother Sheehan. In a time when I find it hard to trust even Dennis Kucinich, your ongoing struggle lifts my battered spirits.

33. I've thought before
that I would like to invite Cindy to visit us at a sweat lodge, with some of the Native Community that are like the wild animals one sometimes sees on the outskirts of a town or city. There is a balance that helps one accommodate the imbalance of modern society.

34. A thought:
Today, an old friend is putting in a new front door on my house. As I've noted before on DU, my house was built in the late 1790s, and was originally a stage coach station, with a doctor's office and early PO upstairs. My friend is having a blast, as he admires the solid construction of yesteryear.

Tomorrow, my cousin (in-law) will be here to take photos for my sons' book. Although she and my friend have never met, they have something in common. And, in fact, it is something they have in common with Cindy.

My friend's son had just completed his first semester in college -- a 4.0 student with a great future -- when he rode with his girlfriend to return a video. They hit black ice, and both died. My cousin's son died a year ago Christmas in his sleep; he was just 14.

I think of the quote from the shaman Igjugarjuk,, when speaking to a European social scientist more than a century ago:

"The only true wisdom lives far from mankind, out in the great loneliness, and it can be reached only through suffering. Privation and suffering alone can open the mind of a man to all that is hidden from others."

44. Pain is a great teacher of patience.
It helps us filter out everything that is superfluous noise in our own minds and yet, helps us recognize ourselves in the pain of others. Very efficient little mechanism.

Maybe the worst thing about torture is that it takes this beautiful system of profound learning and perverts it.

45. Cindy never wavered from her principles.
One of the few whose word is like gold.

She turned the tide on the Bush administration with courage that was lacking in so many others.

I remember when just seeing her name on a democratic board was cause for joy. Where did all the pro-war 'democrats' come from? Not that they matter of course, Cindy was and is right and that's what matters.

I'm sure she will be happy to meet you and your daughter ~

46. I saw Cindy in Fresno several years ago.
She gave a very moving talk. She drew a pretty good crowd. There were pro-war protestors outside but many more came to listen to what she had to say.

I respect her and am thankful for everything she has done.

I hope your daughter can meet her.
