Obama's playing chess. Now I don't think it's a very good game
but he's obviously using the drilling as a pawn. Problem is, it still won't get him the votes on climate change and they'll still have a huge fit over the admin raising CAFE standards.

2. Don't forget there were many that doubted Obama's strategy would
produce a HCR bill. I think at this point he has earned the benefit of the doubt.

7. And we ended up with a shitty bill.
If his "strategy" is the same, we'll just end up with another shitty bill. :puke:

15. It's a solid bill with room for improvement, but go ahead and mis-characterize it
if it means you will not have to admit you were wrong.

3. He stole their top issue and will impliment it responsibly.
It's pure hell for Republicans.

Boner is already on record as opposing Obama's plan, apparently because it's too environmentally responsible.

And you don't see a problem with that???

If Obama is implementing THEIR agenda instead of OUR agenda, it isn't a clever ploy to where Dems win.

We WIN by enacting OUR agenda and defeating THEIR agenda.

If having their agenda enacted is "pure hell" then I'd sure like a double dose.

18. Don't you see? It's brilliant
Capitulate totally to what the other side wants and then beg them to help us lower green house emissions.

Just like HCR. Promise to keep all our best ideas out of the bill and then beg them to let us pass a bill based on plan masterminded by the Heritage foundation plan.

Historic!

20. For me its the "war never ending", the re-adoption of the Bush policies,
the abandonment of the public option and now this. I really can't stand him.

22. I like him
a lot. I think he's a good, caring man who's trying to clean up a smoldering disaster that the Bushclown left behind . . . he's trying to get major things done. I'm patient and flexible, and I even accept the path to solutions isn't always pretty, but in study after study of nuclear power, radiation leaks out to the surrounding towns and water supply. Cancer rates, especially in children, go up. I put people first, it's why I'm a Democrat, so nuclear is a deal breaker for me, I really hope he changes his stance on it.

5. Note that he said in the campaign that he'd be willing to compromise on this one....
Still hate it, though.

And yah, yah.... I'll spend a few minutes looking for where I read about him saying that.....

so much for that promise.

10. ...
From the campaign:

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/08/01/obama-shifts-on-oil-drilling/?fbid=0jgVlh3Seuq

"ORLANDO, Florida (CNN) – Barack Obama said Friday that he would be willing to compromise on his position against offshore oil drilling if it were part of a more overarching strategy to lower energy costs.

“My interest is in making sure we've got the kind of comprehensive energy policy that can bring down gas prices," Obama told The Palm Beach Post early into a two-day swing through Florida.

"If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage – I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done," Obama said."

Like I said, I still don't like it either, but it's not a surprise or a betrayal.

16. , . . .
from the campaign - 6/20/08 - Jacksonville Fl

"And when I am president, I intend to keep in-place the moratorium here in Florida and around the country that prevents oil complanies from drilling off Florida's coasts. That's how we can protect our coastline."

19. Guess that's why the more recent article I linked is titled "Obama shifts on oil drilling?"
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 01:03 PM by BlooInBloo
But his openness to compromise on this was still almost 2 years ago, from the campaign, and is neither new, nor betrayal.

Still shitty though.

edit: If Obama said something after the article I linked taking back his openness to compromise during the campaign, that would be interesting.

and demand real answers for a very real energy shortage, not bumper sticker "drill baby drill" bullshit.

11. Especially when "drill baby drill" starts in their own back yards.
Watch how fast Mr. DeMint, et al., change their tunes. Their choices now are to A) Support President Obama AND damage their states' tourism industry and coastal property values, or B) Find other energy alternatives. Can't wait to see what Sen. Waterloo chooses.

The Repukes are nervously dancing around with the knights now. Repukes don't know how to use knights because they can't figure out how to use anything that moves in more than two directions, also hoping people don't notice their queen is Sarah Palin.
