Anyone hear Hartmann jump the shark yesterday?
A caller brought up the media, and Thom said, "When the Dems are in power, the media prop up the Repukes, and when the Repukes are in power, the media prop up the Dems"

:wtf:

Do you remember Big Media propping up the Dems between 1994 and 2006? Please, someone, clue me in.

1. Hartmann knows that is crap
Thom has really lost it of late. I used to respect him, but lately I have to feel he is now bought off.

2. I must not have been around...
I must have been in a cave... weird how I remember so vividly the vile nature of the Repuke reign of the last decade, yet this alleged Dem support from media is nowhere to be found in my memory.

4. I didn't hear it either and I listen to Hartmann every day.
I think this is going to be a bash Hartmann thread, which is too bad because he's a DUer. You can find his posts in the video forum every day.

16. I listen to him every day too
I listen to him every day - sometimes twice (there is a 3:00 PM rerun on Ohio Majority). I have been listening since ieamericaradio.com. I invite you to sift through the 2nd hr of yesterday's podcast. It was discouraging.

I don't like him have 2-3 wingers on every day. They have 600 radio stations, 5-6 cable TV stations, and dozens of newspapers and magazines to broadcast their shit. He usually finds some common ground with them too.

That said, he and Malloy are pretty much all we have. I just wish he wasn't so accomodating to the nuts.

19. I agree about having the wingers on, but he seems to think he can
change their minds or something. The finding common ground gesture that he has been trying lately is pretty Quixotic of him but that's Thom. I believe he did it because Al Franken often did it. I don't agree with either him or Malloy 100% of the time but I think you have it wrong that he doesn't know the media favors the RW propaganda talking points most of the time.

21. There is no "have it wrong"
He said yesterday on the air that Big Media favors Dems when the Repukes are in power. this is a fact. Whether he believes that, I don't know. I am reporting what he said, yesterday.

23. I didn't hear him say that.
I'm sorry. I know he allows the wingers more air time than we like but I didn't hear Thom say that out of his mouth. Most likely the winger said something to that effect that he agreed to, but I think you have taken it out of context. If you really are offended by it, Thom has a website you can post on. Ask him directly. But to put up an inflammatory post about him because you disagree with him ONCE makes you not very credible in your intentions.

every day on the evening news with "day 1,683,796 of the Iran Hostage Crisis" with the not-so-subtle unspoken message that CARTER IS INCOMPETENT!!!!!!!!!? :sarcasm:

9. to clarify my previous statement
I have met and talked to Thom and long ago quit listening to him when he brought on his show the KKK and really allowed them to propel their message giving their website several times. I grew up during Jim Crow in Mississippi and saw the horrors of that day, knew many KKK members, and still to this day remember the sight of a hanging black body the day after the hanging. I felt and still feel this group should not be allowed time to talk their hate and given any legit status which is how they took the appearance on Hartmann's show. While that is a matter of judgement and depends on how you view it, for Hartmann to say that the media favors any party who isn't in power, if he did say it, then he knows as do we all, that that is totally crap. I don't know if he said it, but from what I know of Hartmann I have been shocked by his shifting position on some things of late.

10. Our protests did get a little more media coverage then...
Of course we held protests with over 1 million people so it was hard to ignore. But.....The media did not paint us as patriotic, we were the so-called un-patriotic ones b/c we didn't support their illegal wars. Now our protests never even make the media.
The media does side with the RW protests more, probably b/c they are compromised by looneys and it makes for "good" tv.

12. There are elements to it that are true - in a general sense
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 02:19 PM by el_bryanto
People in power have the ability to set the agenda - they are also more valuable media contacts and can, if they choose, use that power to influence the press. If you have a White House Contact you are less likely to run stories that would piss off that contact.

That said, it kind of ignores the fact that the press hated Clinton and Gore, and that Democrats generally don't play the media game as viciously as Republicans.

Pretty soon you people are going to be standing there all alone.

One half assed comment he makes deserves a thread throwing him under the bus? Yeah fucking brilliant, just brilliant.

26. You... caught me in a lie? Huh?
You do realize that my previous two posts are just above and can be seen by everybody, right? You also realize that you just broke DU civility rules by accusing me of being a liar, right?

I asked that you proved what you stated in your OP. You have refused and now, to dodge your lack of proof of your claims, you in desperation accuse me of being a liar. Amazing. Perhaps you need to just take a break from the internets.

15. Whatever Thom
Have you noticed all of the attention the teabaggers are getting? Contrary to what the media would have us believe, the teabaggers aren't a very big movement. The most they've ever been able to get to a protest was about 70,000. And you honestly think the media props up the left in any way? Please.

24. He didn't say it.
It was a winger he was interviewing that said it and he said something about that the media sometimes was opposite to whoever was in power, but he didn't say that during George Bush's administration that the media was all liberal, not at all.

25. Opposition
Sometimes the media does look for negative news about anyone in power or close to it -- it does sell.
