Maybe its a good thing that Obama is opening drilling rights. |
|
If the Republicans opened drilling rights, they would give away everything to the oil companies. With Obama in charge the country might strike a fair deal with the oil companies.

Or, oil companies might just get richer and the environment more trashed.
Color me cynical, but I'm betting on option #2.

Just like the deal with Pharma. s Lost their mind? Apparently or maybe they lost it before and need someone to do the thinking for them and since he is a D it is OK.
The unbelievable is unfortunately becoming very believable isn't it?

15. Now, will Big Oil make the investment? |
|
The costs to locate and off-shore drill are pretty substantial and there are risks that these investments won't pay off. High maintenance, too. Why would they risk capital when they've already got a tanker fleet that can fill up in the Persian Gulf without any further investment?

17. I think it's more a called bluff |
|
as it is unlikely any sane oil company will drill oil off the shore of these states. Unless the amazing happens and the oil is abundant and very easy to refine. As far as I know east coast oil isn't either of those things so... its more a political stunt to counter Republican political stunts about MORE drilling. But will it work? Doesn't seem likely but Obama is better at campaigning than me.

19. This is the second time I've seen this rationale |
|
for Obama doing what we would not tolerate from Bush.
'It's better if a Democrat does it'.
How about nobody does it? Wasn't that our position until today?
Environmentalists don't share your optimism, people whose opinions used to be respected, until today. I trust their judgement far more than any politician even one who is as good a salesman as this president.
It seems every issue that was a Democratic cause, is now being signed away and with nervous approval by people who were openly opposed to those same issues when Republicans tried to push them through.

BTW, environmentalism is more than just "managing resources well": it's an acknowledgement that the world isn't a giant resource for Earth's master planners to divvy up and consume, even if "sustainably"
