Ne. Senators try to curb animal fights

I just vented about our state senators this morning on abortion in LBN. We can do good things here in Ne. too.

LINCOLN (AP) -- Possessing animal-fighting paraphernalia including dog fighting pits and even exercise treadmills in Nebraska could land people in jail for up to a year.

Nebraska lawmakers on Wednesday gave first-round approval to the bill (LB252) from Sen. Abbie Cornett of Bellevue.

Some senators involved in ranching and agriculture were concerned the proposal could hinder those industries but were assured the bill is aimed at curbing animal fighting, such as between dogs.

To be considered banned paraphernalia, objects would have to be used, intended to be used, or designated for training, preparation or conditioning of fighting animals.
