The Wichita Eagle

Roeder is set to return to court for sentencing Thursday at 9 a.m.

District Attorney Nola Foulston has said she will ask Sedgwick County Judge Warren Wilbert to impose a sentence of life without parole for at least 50 years.

That would essentially preclude parole for Roeder, 52.

A jury found Roeder guilty of first-degree murder after only 37 minutes of deliberations on Jan. 29 in the May 2009 killing of Tiller in the foyer of his Wichita church.

Friends of Roeder told a reporter for the Associated Press that he will try to call them as character witnesses.

The Tiller family will also be able to speak at the sentencing.

The Eagle plans to cover the proceedings live from the courtroom on Twitter.

1. i assume he will get life without the possibility of parole but
i wish they could add no outside communication to continue spreading "the word" of his actions.

3. I remember the Nightline interviews after Harvey Milk was killed
Same sort of thing. Many oppose capital punishment until one of theirs is taken out.

4. I don't believe in capital pnishment. I think life without parole is perfect for this cretin.
Give him a good LONG time to read the bible and figure out how Christ will view his murdering a doctor....

at least one could HOPE that he will realize that murder is NOT a "christian" value....

6. I was vehemently against capital punishment for most of my life.

But I have seen so many crimes that are so evil that I now feel is is a waste of air and taxes to keep some of these really bad guys in jail for life (at about 50 grand a year). If the killer/rapist/evil fuck could be made to work to support his life sentence, well then, maybe give them life behind bars. Some people are well beyond redemption.
In jail, he can sit and relax, watch TV, have free medical and dental care, access to college courses etc. Undeserved.

8. Not me; still firmly against. I can't help but notice the hypocrisy, though.

Why are they NOT pursuing the DP for THIS guy, of all people?

(A rhetorical question, of course.)

10. Because of states that allow the DP, we have one of the strictest.
I do not believe it met criteria.

9. Montana Freemen. Had almost forgotten about them. 81 Days in 1995.
"In addition to maintaining they are not subject to federal or state laws, the Freemen also claimed that God intended white people to rule the Earth, that blacks are animals and Jews are descendants of Satan. "

Seattle Times, 1999.
