Fox News' Sarah Palin Promo Shock 'n' Awes Toby Keith
Today 5:47 PM PDT by Natalie Finn

What are they putting in the water at those tea parties?

Just hours after LL Cool J took issue with Fox News for splicing old footage of him into a promo for a Sarah Palin-hosted special in which she profiles "real Americans," country singer Toby Keith said that the very same thing happened to him!

Keith's rep, Elaine Schock, confirmed to E! News Wednesday that the U.S.A.-championing artist has never been interviewed by Palin, yet there's a clip of him in the same commercial, right before LL Cool J comes on.

"I have no idea what interview they are using," Schock told the New York Times' Arts Beat blog.

"Toby’s talked to Fox a number of times, and I had no idea that this was going to be on Sarah Palin's special. Fox has never contacted me—not now, not when they were putting this together, not at all. I have no idea what they’re using."

She later informed the Times that the interview likely occurred in early 2009.

After ending up the target of a negative tweet, the network has since dropped the repurposed LL Cool J interview from Real American Stories, airing Thursday night.

Keith, a self-described "conservative Democrat" who's known for his unflagging support of U.S. troops, has helped give Fox News some celebrity cachet over the years, sitting down for multiple chats about his music and movie projects.

3. Fox: "three guests will speak to Palin"
"But several accounts of the special reported that Ms. Palin herself would be talking to the guests in the show. One of these, on the Fox Nation website, which is owned by Fox News, reprinted an account from the website The Hill, which said:

“Sarah Palin will kick off her new Fox News series with one of the most diverse guest lineups in memory: LL Cool J, Toby Keith, and Jack Welch. The three very different guests will speak to Palin for her inaugural episode of ‘ American Stories ‘ on April 1st.”

4. Maybe they meant the three guests are very different from LLCool J, Toby Keith and Jack Welch
They'll kick off the special with old footage from them and then Palin will talk to three other people.

5. Is this FUX's answer to Henry Louis Gates' superb "Faces of America"?
Edited on Wed Mar-31-10 09:10 PM by WorseBeforeBetter
I don't get it. Is Yukon Barbie even interviewing anyone, or relying on old tapes from interviews past? Does FUX have an original idea in its head? We know how well their Daily Show-esque attempt at satire went over...

6. I can see this having a chilling effect on potential Fox interviewees
If you get interviewed by a show, I think you have a right to expect that that interview will only be aired in it's entirety and in context.

Now it seems that Fox has sold the rights of the footage to another network to be used in an entirely different context.

Warning to anyone else thinking of giving an interview on Fox - your words may be cut up and used on OTHER shows without your permission or knowledge.
