Does anyone know which direction we are headed?? |
|
As a liberal, I am confused. Are we going to end the present wars? Are we going to drill oil off our coasts? Are we going to put regulations on the Big Banks and Wall Street? Are we going to put a fair tax on the wealthy in this country? Are we going to give equal rights to all our citizens? Are we going to re-instate the Glass-Steagal Act? Are we going to help the folks that are losing their homes?
Does anyone know which direction we are headed?

Judging from what they've done so far, it would be a surprise if any of that happened under Obama (except for the oil-drilling).

with the Repugs and even his own party. And the MSM has given him a helping hand by supporting him. And gee - come on already - he's been President now for 14 months - he should have had all this done by now. I mean - after all - BushCo left him a bed of roses - anybody coming in after BushCo should have had a cakewalk. They could have just coasted and spent time on the golf course or at Camp David. I guess Obama just doesn't care cause he really hasn't accomplished anything since he took over. I sure do wish that McCain and Palin would have won - maybe they would have been better. Oh well - live and learn.

Be nice if two of those presidents weren't waging war in the name of religion.
I mean we've got H.W. claiming atheists aren't patriots or US citizens, and then W. claiming he was told to declare war on the Middle East by God himself.
I don't know about you, but to me that sounds like the kind of insanity I call 'evil.'

Let me get out my compass and star charts ...
We are seeing the rap-up of the wile, whoopin' Capitalist party just as we begin to exhaust the World's easily attainable and cheap energy supplies. We're looking at some an austere cold front with a partly Fascist cloud cover later in the day. Chance of a major Depression coming in from the West is about 90%. Look for anything from tyrannical sprinkles to a reign of terror in the evening with fundamentalist thunderstorms with a chance of Theocracy in the early a.m., all you road warriors.
Our impact on the biosphere and the species that inhabit it is starting to take its toll and we get to watch the gradual collapse of eco-systems and mass extinctions. While some question our part in the process, various aspects of the Planet's climate are changing and we see ice masses melting while a thermal circuit of currents slows in the oceans.
There are way too many of us and a small percentage of that amount are holding amassing and holding onto what wealth, (financial and resources) remains.
We are going to see an both the bleeding dry of the masses and a massive abandoning of their needs, essential and otherwise. However, corporate media will continue to convince people that this is not happening, that things are not so bad, and that everything will get better ... soon!
Eventually, most of us will be the Eloi, (well not so tranquil or Sunshiney) and the Morlocks, who are used to thinking of us as livestock, will probably kill most of us off, reserving the rest for slave duties and choice cuts.
That was the abridged version. Have a great day and keep on smiling! It's a beautiful world we live in. Perfect in every way. Beautiful people everywhere. The way they SHOW they care.

very liberal. At least they will throw us a few bones, instead of turning us into bones like the elitist, money wing of the GOP will. Since everyone who once was an FDR Democrat and everyone, who once was an Eisenhower Republican are turning into Independents, I think we might start seeing some new parties emerging. That's what my Tarot cards are pointing to.

31. I watched Michael Eric Dyson go off about the lack of support |
|
from the administration to the black community at a recent conference. He was furious and nearly in tears, finally. He was objecting as strongly as possible to the president saying that "the rising tide will lift all boats" and to depend on the stimulus and it got more heated from there. The "rising tide" thing did not go over and apparently (something I didn't know) the black community will get less access to stimulus funds because they go to the states and not to the cities. It just hurt to watch.
Wherever this is going, I am not liking it. I don't like seeing groups that worked hard to get the president elected be put off, ridiculed, minimized. Maybe that's the part that bothers me more than anything else.

|
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 06:52 AM by ThomWV
And in a way you misphrase your question. You ask "Are we going to ..." when in fact I thought by putting the Administration and Congress we now have in their seats "we" had done what "we" were supposed to do and now those we elected, the Democratic President, Congresspersons, and Senators, are supposed to do their part. So the question might better be phrased "Are our elected Officials going to .... and if not let's elect someone else".

"I met a traveller from an antique land Who said: Two vast and trunkless legs of stone Stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed. And on the pedestal these words appear: "My name is Ozymandias, king of kings: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!" Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away"
