Congressman thinks Guam will tip over and capsize:
http://www.youtube.com/v/zNZczIgVXjg (The first minute drags, but wait for it.)

Hank Johnson is a Dem from Georgia. I would like to think he was kidding. I don't know how the Admiral kept a straight face.

6. Sorry. here's another link:
Rep. Hank Johnson: Guam could 'tip over and capsize'

Rep. Hank Johnson (D-Ga.) is afraid that the U.S. Territory of Guam is going to "tip over and capsize" due to overpopulation.

Johnson expressed his worries during a House Armed Services Committee hearing on the defense budget Friday.

Addressing Adm. Robert Willard, who commands the Navy's Pacific Fleet, Johnson made a tippy motion with his hands and said sternly, "My fear is that the whole island will become so overly populated that it will tip over and capsize."

Willard paused and said: "We don't anticipate that."

He should probably say "April fools" In a tweet. It is inexplicable otherwise.

they must have one hell of an anchor. I enjoyed a lot of things when I lived in Georgia, but I must say some of the people there were a little "funny".

Then I moved to North Carolina.....

ADDED: Thank god the Navy is on top of this!!!

12. I almost got fired for arguing with a member about this
Honestly thought the guy was making a racist joke at the expense of one of my coworkers because he kept making fun of it this morning. Made my friend really angry so I complained to club management. Our GM looked it up on the web. I may now have to write a letter of apology to the member. The old man (member) is still a racist pig and was still out of line, but I guess he wasn't making it up. The upside is, my coworkers in the maintenance tent and cart barn know I have their backs no matter what. So it's a happy end to the story.

15. My guess is he was speaking metaphorically
It's been a couple of decades since I've been to Guam, but I don't remember it being that heavily populated. There's lots of jungle areas that are still remote, even for such a small island. Hell, a Japanese soldier hid there undetected until the 70's.

22. There is actually a credible reason for this
Edited on Thu Apr-01-10 07:11 PM by anigbrowl
It turns out Hank Johnson is seriously ill from chronic hepatitis C. Whether due to medication or the progress of the disease itself, he is exhibiting numerous symptoms of mental and physical decline. It may be that he's reached the stage of being unable to perform his duties any more.

What an embarrassment.... I can't believe anyone in this country would think this or even say it even if they don't honestly believe it.

Sarah Palin has competition. The Democrats have somebody who could get elected in Michelle Bachmann's district. Let's recognize this for what it is and not blow it.
