Vatican to the New York Times: Quit playa hatin' on the Pope
Vatican lashes out against sex abuse coverage
By VICTOR L. SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer – 16 mins ago

VATICAN CITY – Cardinals rushed to Pope Benedict XVI's defense on Holy Thursday amid accusations he played a role in covering up sex abuse scandals, as an increasingly angry Vatican made a stinging attack on the U.S. media for its coverage.

The relationship between the church and the media has become increasingly bitter as the scandal buffeting the 1 billion-member church has touched the pontiff himself. On Wednesday, the church singled out the New York Times for criticism in an unusually harsh attack.

Western news organizations, including The Associated Press, have reported extensively on the burgeoning scandal, and new revelations have emerged on an almost daily basis.

Venice's Cardinal Angelo Scola expressed solidarity with Benedict in his Holy Thursday homily in the lagoon city, describing him as a victim of "deceitful accusations." He praised the pope as seeking to remove all "dirt" from the priesthood. ..........(more)

1. Somebody once said that the Catholic Church is the biggest con in history...
I recall that with each new criminal act hidden within the walls of the Vatican.

2. Sadly, the Vatican isn't being "bashed" -- its members and children have been bashed by the church-!
And why do we still have a reigning male-supremacist religion still standing

in 2010?

The Vatican refuses to acknowledge the full personhood of females as it acknowledges

the full personhood of males --

Needless to say, it is also a church which continues to deny the full personhood of

homosexuals --

Their "god" is one who has hatred for women and homosexuals --

Further, "Manifest Destiny" and "Man's Dominion Over Nature" are two licenses to exploit

nature which simply benefit the few and which have given us the destruction of nature,

the environment, Global Warming.

3. Me think Benedict doth
protest a bit too much. Is the Vatican still sheltering Cardinal Law from prosecution?

The comments after the article are interesting, and reveal the power of the church.

6. "Satan" is a creation of patriarchy . . .
and more fear-based teaching to frighten members --

and it works!!

Of course the comments are by people subscribing to this Catholic news outlet --

I think other Catholics are beginning to wake up --

Democracy doesn't work well for organized patriarchal religion -- "equality for all" --

7. Maybe the Vatican should sue the Times for libel.
Now that could be a very interesting trial.

9. Perhaps the Pope should worry more about his employees sticking their penises in young boys
Instead of bitching about other people being outraged that his employees are sticking their penises in young boys. I have zero sympathy and an intense hatred for that sad excuse for a human being. Every Catholic should be horrified and ashamed of the Vatican right now.
