Bush: "our new (Iraq) strategy . . . is fundamentally different from the previous strategy
Edited on Wed May-02-07 02:53 PM by bigtree
Bush today: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070502-2.html

"The most important fact about our new strategy, it is fundamentally different from the previous strategy. The previous strategy wasn't working the way we wanted it to work. It's interesting, they run polls -- and I accept that -- and it said, you know, we don't approve of what's happening in Iraq. That was what the poll said last fall and winter, you know. And had they polled me, I'd have said the same thing. (Laughter.) I didn't approve of what was happening in Iraq. And so we put a new strategy in that was fundamentally different."

1. Build walls, stop training Iraqi forces, extend tours for our soldiers
I see differences the only problem is this strategy is even stupider.

2. For a guy who says he doesn't care about polls
he sure talks about them enough.

Oh, and the laughter about the "previous" Iraq policy not working is so unbelievably inappropriate, it's hard to believe it would come out of a President's mouth. Except of course, for this President. Who always seems to smirk and chuckle at the most inappropriate times. You know, like when he's talking about soldiers dying.

4. Doesn't this revelation require another Iraq War resolution?
Afterall, the first one was supposed to get Saddam out of power and neuter Iraq's ability to wage war with WMDs. It appears that ended with Bush's "Mission Accomplished" and Saddam's execution. So if the "mission" is accomplished, what's keeping us in Iraq? I don't recall a resolution to use US troops to quell civil war between warring religious factions...

But then, I'm a bit naive when it comes to worldly affairs...

5. So what is the "new" strategy? Can he explain that to us??
Better yet, what was the old strategy?

7. Old strategy - bang head against brick wall. New strategy - bang head against concrete wall.
Brilliant!

8. A strategy would only be "fundamentally different" if...
...it moved in several hundred thousand (perhaps as many as a million) troops, properly trained and equipped, arrested and GITMO'd every present "contractor", and actually helped Iraqis rebuild their country.

Which is something he "fundamentally" can't produce.

9. What an asinine speech
And I'm sure the "had they polled me, I'd have said the same thing" line is recycled from a speech he gave several months ago... I'm certain I've heard that quip before.
