Pres. Obama to Boehner: Where’s the Armageddon?
April 1, 2010

___ Mr. Obama, speaking to a boisterous crowd in Portland, noted that the House Republican leader, Representative John A. Boehner of Ohio, was among those to predict catastrophic results (from the new health care legislation).

PRESIDENT OBAMA: . . . So after I signed the bill, I looked around. I looked up at the sky to see if asteroids were coming. I looked at the ground to see if cracks had opened up in the earth. You know what, it turned out it was a pretty nice day. Birds were still chirping. Folks were strolling down the street. Nobody had lost their doctor. Nobody had pulled the plug on Granny. Nobody was being dragged away to be forced into some government-run health care plan.

But the thing is, though, you have to love some of the pundits in Washington. Every single day since I signed the reform law, there’s been another poll or headline that said “Nation still divided on health care reform. Polls haven’t changed yet.” Well, yeah. It just happened last week. It’s only been a week.

Can you imagine if some of these reporters were working on a farm? You planted some seeds, and they came out the next day, and they looked, and nothing’s happened! There’s no crop! We’re going to starve! Oh, no! It’s a disaster!

It’s been a week, folks. So before we find out if people like health care reform, we should wait to see what happens when we actually put it into place. Just a thought.

2. "It's been a week folks"
Yeah... but it was the FIRST week... when we would expect the biggest bump. Plenty of press coverage... the party taking a victory lap.

The next opportunity for a big bump is after significant numbers of people see a real benefit... but much of that doesn't happen in time for the elections.

4. Huh?
The President wasn't talking about a popularity bump from the media - he knows that won't happen.

As a result, he's out there on the road doing exactly what he's doing - explaining the benefits of the bill to counter the MSM doomsday/doubt spin.

6. He's not?
Then why talk about polls and headlines?

Besides... I'm not talking about the media pumping for HCR, I just mean the active coverage that followed the bill being passed.

They're obviously not going to give it more coverage a month from now than what we've seen in the last week.

as everyone figured out how much closing that 28% loophole for pensions will end up costing the big companies... and hopefully the fallout is that the companies do NOT drop the coverage on those employees.

Not Armageddon, but fallout...
