12 yr old son went into grocery store to buy limes. told me a woman cut in front of him
takes me back to when he was younger and the number of adults i would watch cut in line when i would let him go into the convenience store by himself or i would stand back and allow him to pay himself. learning at a young age how to handle money and interact with people. he told me the thing being young is a kid isnt allowed to say anything.

i asked him, when have i ever taught you that a kid isnt allowed to speak up. respectfully of course. a simple excuse me... is fine.

he thought about it and said, but today.... people are so angry at kids. they want kids to be quiet, not say anything, that kids are out of control and bad mannered and we really arent allowed even politely to say anything. even if he was polite the adult would accuse him otherwise. being good and respectful is important to him. something he puts an effort in and thinks about and works hard on.

i told him

a child should be respectful, as an adult should. though there are many that are not
a child should be kind, as an adult should
a child should speak up too....

i hear on the board often about the out of control kids. i see out of control kids here and there. watched one on the play ground today. cussin. an older lady yells to the 9 yr olds playing, that language isnt allowed by you kids. then i watched the group of kids, and how the reacted to the woman. later i say to the woman, thanks for speaking up. i should have, but i was watching the kids, trying to figure what was up. a father yells, kids cussin? it was his son. took the kid off.

though i do see out of control, undesciplined, angry kids. i see a lot more good, kind, respectful children.

i see the out of control, undescipline and angry adult too.

though most all adults i interact with are pretty good people.

2. he learns so much more dealing with unpleasant people. firstly,
regardless of his reaction to the negative he is being given by a person, to go beyond his reaction and understand he cannot know why the person does what they do. that he has no control. not personal. and may have nothing to do with him

where he does have power is his ability to help the person to a positive place thru kindness and understanding. an excellent exercise to practice when being given something negative and having to control his own feelings. and embracing a person even in their own personal darkness, findig the lite in a person.

3. Put the lime in the coconut
Brother bought a coconut, he bought it for a dime
His sister had another one, she paid it for the lime

She put the lime in the coconut, she drank 'em both up (3x)
Put the lime in the coconut, she called the doctor, woke him up, and said

Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said
Doctor, to relieve this bellyache, I said
Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said
Doctor, to relieve this bellyache

Now let me get this straight
Put the lime in the coconut, you drank 'em both up (3x)
Put the lime in the coconut, you called your doctor, woke him up, and said

Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said
Doctor, to relieve this bellyache, I said
Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said
Doctor, to relieve this bellyache

You put the lime in the coconut, you drink 'em both together
Put the lime in the coconut, then you feel better
Put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em both up
Put the lime in the coconut, and call me in the morning

Brother bought a coconut, he bought it for a dime
His sister had another one, she paid it for the lime
She put the lime in the coconut, she drank 'em both up
Put the lime in the coconut, she called the doctor, woke him up, and said

Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said
Now let me get this straight

You put the lime in the coconut, you drink 'em both up (3x)
Put the lime in the coconut, you're such a silly woman

Put the lime in the coconut, you drink 'em both together
Put the lime in the coconut, then you feel better
Put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em both down
Put the lime in the coconut, and call me in the morning

Woo-oo, ain't there nothin' you can take, I said
Woo-oo, to relieve your bellyache, you said
Woo-oo, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said
Woo-oo, to relieve your bellyache, you say

Yeah-ah, ain't there nothing I can take, I say
Wow-ow, to relieve this bellyache, I said
Doctor, ain't there nothin' I can take, I said (3x)
Doctor, you're such a silly woman

Put the lime in the coconut, you drink 'em both together
Put the lime in the coconut, then you feel better
Put the lime in the coconut, drink 'em both up
Put the lime in the coconut, and call me in the mo-o-ornin'

Yes, you call me in the morning
If you call me in the morning I'll tell you what to do {repeat to fade}

12. Now you have to buy the Nilsson CD,
play it on repeat for 24 hours, and put the lime in the coconut. Otherwise, it will be stuck in your head forever.

14. I just realized that song is one chord played over and over again.
The music is simply repeating a 7th chord (A7) and the 7th chord one fourth up. I have an alternative tuning that makes it easy to play.

5. a lot of the "me generation" never outgrew that phase
which really explains how the Repuke party survived the Nixon debacle ...

The country went from "Ask not what your country can do for you ..." to "Hey, what's in it for me?"

6. Someone did that to my daughter, who was 8 at the time, in Target
They didn't see me rounding the corner and I almost took their heads off. I guess they felt because they had less items and my daughter was too small to take up for herself, they could take advantage of her. I was pissed!

9. I've always taken pleasure in standing up for kids
Many opportunities to see kids served up some injustice or other. People always seem surprised when a stranger stands up for the kid they don't even know. Always trip all over themselves making excuses....

10. Asshole Adults
I've seen adults do that to kids. I always say something. Adults think they can get away with anything with kids but a kid does something and it's Big News and "kids are out-of-control". Adults are the shit asses most of the time and they just can't stand it when that doesn't impress some kids.
I'm almost always on the kid's side. Grownups are Perfect Jerks a lot of the time.

11. Kids are people no matter what age, my daughter got cut by a guy a the juice place
he didn't even acknowledge she was there, thankfully the girl behind the register said "Excuse me but she was next". My pint-there are probably an equal number of good people out there is as well to counteract the assholes.

13. Kids are just the target. People are very angry these days in general.
rude, nasty and completely oblivious to people's feeling and don't care.
It's a symptom of the frustration people feel, the worry and the feeling of sinking. It's just underneath and comes out with strangers like kids.
Hopefully, this will subside when the bushies leave and the next president can take steps to make things livable and more secure.
