This Is As EVIL As It Gets!!

Thirsty world captures investors' attention
Wed May 2, 2007 10:25AM EDT

By Christine Stebbins -Analysis

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The need to feed up to two billion more people by 2025, booming industrialization in developing countries like China, and a warming climate seen threatening the world's most precious natural resource has investors serious about water.

"Regardless of what happens to the economy -- you can bet and bank on a predictable demand for water. It is a product that is essential to life," said Deane Dray, who analyzes water markets for Goldman Sachs in New York.

"People will largely pay 'whatever' because it is life-sustaining and there is no substitute. You put all those together, it is very clear why companies are enthusiastic about water."

The United Nations Human Development Report for 2006 said that by 2025, if current global water consumption continues, more than 3 billion of the world's 7.9 billion people will be living in areas where water is scarce.

Indeed, conflicts over water rights are already going on in dozens of areas from sub-Saharan Africa to the Middle East to Australia, India, eastern Asia and the U.S. Southwest.

1. Gee, this wouldn't have anything to do with why the BFEE bought the land in Paraguay, would it?
Naw...the fact that the land sits over the world's largest
natural underground water aquifer is irrelevant, right?
Right...
Uh-huh.
Got it.

2. Breathtaking in its psychopathology. They've been 'conditioning' us through the bottled water
profiteering scam.

And we all buy it, both literally and figuratively.

Water does not belong to them, nor frankly should Iraq's oil.

3. Unmitigated GREED. That's the problem.
They are not necessarily Psycho-pathological-
they are just fucking corporatists, always looking the
the bottom line of profit.
They could care a less if that means that innocent
people die...
Oh wait, that is the definition of a psychopath.
Nevermind.

4. I don't know...jerking us around by jacking with oil availability is one thing...
We could always ride a bike, walk, take public transportation, etc. But, jerking us around by jacking with water availability may result in a backlash against CorpUSA that will make the 1960s/1970s look like a picnic...

8. Coca cola steals water from India's farmers...
"Corporate Accountability International estimates at least five Indian communities near Coca-Cola bottling plans are suffering severe water shortages and widespread health problems due to the beverage giant siphoning off massive amounts of local groundwater. The water drawn for factory operations by the company’s Gandhre plant is enought to serve 75,000 villagers daily. In Plachimada, Coca-Cola extracted hundreds of thousands of gallons of clean water through electric pumps, leaving hundreds of local wells dry and forcing community members to travel great distances to meet their daily water needs. As clean drinking water becomes more scarce, water riots and water-related murders are becoming daily occurences in India."

9. Poisoning People
Distributing Toxic Waste as Fertilizer

Some of Coca-Cola's practices in India have been downright absurd.

In a "goodwill gesture", Coca-Cola was distributing the solid waste from its bottling plants to farmers in the area as fertilizer. The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) had the waste tested and found extremely high levels of heavy metals such as lead and cadmium in the waste, effectively making the solid waste toxic. When confronted by the BBC reporter on their practice of distributing toxic waste as fertilizer, Coca-Cola's Vice-President said, "It's good for the farmers because most of them are poor." The Coca-Cola company was ordered to stop the practice by the government authorities immediately.

Poisoning People

One of the most remarkable cases of double standards in recent times has to be Coca-Cola's selling of sub-standard drinks in India.

In 2003, a very well respected environmental group and winner of 2005 Stockholm Water Prize, the Centre for Science and Environment, found that Coca-Cola (and Pepsico) products in India contained extremely high levels of pesticides-DDT, malathion, lindane and chlorpyrifos. In some samples, the presence of these insecticides exceeded the limits set by the European Economic Community by 137 times!
