There's no other word to describe what's going on with America's juveniles. Something must be done.

Look at this graph of the juvenile arrest rate! Shocking!



And the teen pregnancy rate! My God!



Look! They're volunteering (at a higher rate than adults) rather than being gainfully employed!!!

Dear God! Look at the juvenile violent crime rate! RUN!!!!



The kids today are doing better than we did, and I'm tired of hearing them trash-talked.

The improvements in pregnancy and crime are really good news. However, I think unemployment is a serious issue for us that needs to be addressed. No new jobs are being created, and no boomers are retiring and opening up their old jobs. We are stuck slacking and brooding when we could be working and gaining experience.

...when the economy wasn't nearly this bad.

I'm not saying we should stop fighting. I'm saying I have a lot more faith in the generation coming up than I do in my own.

I updated it to 2005 in my second post; if you really think the past 5 years have seen an upsurge in juvenile violent crime I can find you a newer graph.

4. Wait! It gets worse!

Look at the high school dropout rate! (Actually in all seriousness this is bad news for Native Americans/Alaskan Natives, and we need to do something about that)



And the property crime rate (national compared to mid-Atlantic states; property crime is heavily juvenile, though this gets to the larger point that ALL crime rates have been pretty steadily dropping for almost 20 years)

Something must be done! Call Congress right now and demand that they build a time machine and send today's youth back in time to teach us how to be less violent, commit fewer crimes, volunteer more, graduate from high school at a higher rate, and have fewer teen pregnancies.
