2. Good news, building codes in Mexico
are much stronger than what the myth says they are.

And even better news the epicenter was not where I live. And yes, it is a mess... gates shut down at the airport, windows breaking, and here at home, books fallen

Oh and the fire department was called to do a structural damage assessment at the Airport.

4. Fashion Valley
trust me you do not want it here. The substrate is quite sandy. Yes I want to move out of here into better substrate as soon as we can... (which will be years sadly)

15. No in San Diego, by the San Diego River
the kind of substrate that liquifies in these things if they are bad enough, and n'body should have allowed to build on.

5. You idiots, (at channel 8)
they are praying for the damage to be heavy in Mexico... vultures... but the building CODES are actually pretty good... IDIOTS

Mexico City, 8.1 lasted minute and a half, less than one percent of all structures affected.

Northridge, 7.1 lasted forty seconds, even major infrastructure was affected...

But hey, whatever. There are other significant differences, by the way. I'd love to see the nature of the waves by the way.

8. I am betting we will have the usual spike in heart attacks
and calls to change windows... even perhaps a cracked wall or two.

Now this city... keep your eye on the news for ahem, sinkholes and pipes that need a changing. San Diego has crumbling infrastructure but they will NEVER link those to the quakes, which do a lot of damage to fresh and waste water pipes. In fact, I SHOULD go get some bottled water for a few weeks. Or just plain out boil it,

Ah that EMS training...

16. I think everybody on the West Coast should gather earthquake water.
I keep nine and a half gallons on hand and change it every six months just in case.

11. Lucky! I get the worst radio reception up here.
It's ridiculous. Seriously thinking of getting Sirius Satellite at home, but I really hate to pay for just radio.

I just wonder if it's in real time. Don't know why I didn't think of it till now  They are talking about earthquake preparedness and stories coming out of Mexali within the hour. Have you heard similar from the stationin the past few minutes?

18. Actually I just read the Northridge was 6.7 and recall on ramps & parking garages

collapsed on themselves. I had been staying on Ocean Blvd in Santa Monica for a business trip but we had headed out to Joshua Tree for an overnight trip. I remember how less than 12 hours earlier I had parked at a garage and travelled on a ramp that had collapsed. Still have anxiety attacks in parking garages.

Here's hoping our neighbors to the south have the most limited damage.
