CNN doesn't want to hear about earthquake preparedness drills.
CNN's wall-to-wall "breaking news" coverage of the Baja earthquake continues, and they made it perfectly clear that they do not want to hear mundane details of earthquake preparedness drills. It appears to have struck in a sporadically populated area, LA was not leveled they're desperately looking for a bigger story. They thought they had something when Northern CA had a smaller trembler, so they talked to a seismologist about the possibility of CA dropping off into the ocean (dream on, Sarah Palin). So imagine the utter disappointment then the fellow on the phone started talking about the drills that people participated in during the "Big Shakeout. The reporter's eyes literally glazed over and hustled the guest onto another topic. Typical CNN.

5. For the record, geographically, California is rising, not falling into the ocean. . .
so if anything, the land east of the state could slip into the Atlantic, but that's only slightly less farfetched than California sinking into the western seas.

6. Yeah, they cut off the seismologist from Cal-Tech
who was explaining the 'mechanics' of the different quakes in southern and northern California. Lousy, lousy coverage.

8. Local press is donig that
mind you, we do have some minor (but expected) structural failures IN SAN DIEGO.

And they will be ahem disappointed. The damage in Mexico will not live to their expectations.
