Average CEO pay down to $9.53 million in ’09

Falls 15 percent according to New York Times, Oracle’s Ellison tops list

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/36167502/ns/business-us_business/

NEW YORK - The average compensation for chief executives at the largest publicly traded U.S. companies fell 15 percent last year to $9.53 million, a decline attributable to the falling value of stock and option awards, the New York Times said on Sunday.

Median compensation fell 13 percent to $7.72 million, the second straight yearly decline, driving pay down to a level not seen since 2004.

It comes amid growing concern among the public, Congress, governance advocates and White House pay czar Kenneth Feinberg about the fairness of out-sized pay, especially at companies that received government aid, as the economy emerges unevenly from the worst recession since the 1930s.

Lawrence Ellison, the chief executive of business software company Oracle Corp — and the world's sixth-richest person, at $28 billion, according to Forbes magazine — topped the list with compensation of $84.5 million, more than the next two highest-paid chief executives combined.

1. Cry me a fucking river.
We're looking at another 5-10% pay cut next school year. I don't know what else I can cut.

3. That's just not fair......
...some of these folks may have to sell a house or two and start driving (gulp) American made cars! I've heard of one case where a guy downsized to a 75' yacht from a 90 footer. The smaller dinghy didn't even have a theater room! The horror!

Please, if you can, dig deep for these guys. They have unmet needs.

OR NOT !

8. The guy tried to sue the San Jose Airport...
...because they wouldn't let him land his private jet "after hours."

A former boss (who is also a good friend and mentor to this day) worked at Oracle and has shared a few stories. The conclusion I came to was that I was happy I never worked at Oracle.

12. Dammit, that does it!
I'm off to the next Tea Party rally! What is this country coming to?? What's wrong with you people? Even living pretty much paycheck to paycheck and having tons of debt, I can understand that if these rich guys don't keep receiving exorbitant pay, then what crumbs am I to expect? What's going to trickle down to ME???

:sarcasm: obviously
