Debating the repubs/teabaggers is a complete waste of time...
The other day I met someone who at first I thought was fairly intelligent...well, until they recited every repuke talking point known to man. It took little effort for me to realize that it was an unfair discussion. I could have completely obliterated her with facts on almost every level.

First she said that HCR was rammed down our throats. I replied that this has been in the works for 14 months and plenty of republicans showed up at the meetings and some of what is contained in it is republican. Then she said Obama had done nothing else. I then recited the jobs bill he signed and threw in a few other things like the war, the economy and whatnot. I was being very pleasant and not the heavy-handed person I can be at times.

It was like educating a third grader (she says she has a B.A.).

She quickly changed the subject and I know that in the future I wouldn't feel the least bit inclined to debate her at all. To remain so willfully ignorant tells me she allows Faux noise types to spoon-feed her talking points. She treats those as facts rather than go investigate for herself. She is not the first person I've met like this. I have family members and I know others who are just like this.

I don't mind the differing opinions at all.

I don't like that these people will only look to those with like-minded thinking. I don't like that they don't want their ideas to be challenged and I don't like that they won't challenge those who are passing around lies as if they are facts. Most of all, I don't like that they will stick to their guns no matter what facts are laid out in front of them that contradicts their way of thinking.

It's not worth my effort.

3. I have a live one at work. She's a retired volunteer so I leave
alone usually. I wanted to challenge her the other day but wasn't armed with the facts. I need to know details about the check medicare recipients are supposed to receive as part of the HCR. I think it is reimbursement for prescription drugs.
I didn't get around to looking into it yet but I will. What I want to do is challenge her to tear it up when she gets it. She was bitching about the health care plan the other day, knows nothing about it. All she knows is what she's been taught by FOX News.
This of course will not happen. So-called conservatives are always willing to rationalize anything that puts money in their pocket.

4. What else do you expect?
I don't think you can easily teach the LOGIC required to accept something with irrefutable facts blowing a hole in the idiocy they want to believe.

WILLFULL IGNORANCE.

It's what they WANT to believe, so even when faced with facts, the lie brings more strength because it's what they are supposed to believe... cuz, you know, they is a smarter then us, ya'll, yoos just a bunch of librul idjits... always THINKUN an stuff"

I REALLY don't like to call anybody stupid. I believe there are alot of smart Republicans who can do great things... but then when you see the stereotype Republican being expressed constantly .... By Republicans... you can't help but laugh at how the stereotypes sometimes live up to their notoriety without even trying.

I guess honestly, for me... all I can do in real life, is lower my head and feel pity for the willfully ignorant.

especially since the President is a Democrat - and black, too! the morer his policies succeed, the worse they will get.

6. Agreed, but remember TWO things.....................
If you DON'T challenge them, they think you agree with them. That's reason enough to challenge them IMO. Also, don't forget that there might be an undecided hanging around and THOSE folks need to hear another POV than the RW bullshit. A lot of them think that if an assertion isn't challenged, if must be true too.
