But now that all the good paying union jobs are gone there isn't anyone left with any extra money to purchase the product or services that I used to provide before I lost my job.

Boy, I sure showed them overpaid union workers didn't I?

2. Yes and since none of those overpaid Union folk ever bought anything from our local hardware
store or our local pharmacist or the local cabinet maker, that's why there aren't any of those folks around anymore either!!

3. Yep!! Those Chinese and other sweat shop laborers are going to buy our goods.
Whoops! We don't have any goods that our people make that they can buy. What the hell do we even make any more?

15. What do we make? . . . digits, mostly, which we then give to our Feudal Lairds & Ladies.

Though I do know a few members of the "Millenial" generation who are starting to try to do something different.

And some of us in Elder Care are learning real quickly about what Real Value is.

4. Instead I would rather pay for the junk that foreigners make
so the big corporations can get richer and richer. Today on one of the morning news shows, there was a discussion about lost jobs. We have lost 2.4 million jobs FROM 2001 - 2008 Now whose reign was that. And the comment was made that it was because of American policies with foreign countries in exchange for their corporation etc. SO BUSH KNEW EXACTLY WHAT HE WAS DOING GIVING AWAY AMERICAN MANUFACTURING JOBS FOR PROFIT AND POLITICS. HOW DAMN COMMON CAN YOU GET. And now the tea bags egged on by the same common a** bunch of republicans in congress are trying to blame Obama for the lost and for not getting them back. Aren't tea bags the most dispersible ignorant bunch of people next to regular republicans in this country. Not one tenth of a brain between them all.

7. I have seen lots of RW crap over the years about the evil unions, started by
foreign immigrants, even catholics and jews and not good American workers, and how they would not buy things with the union-made label. Well, maybe they don't want things the unions got for ALL American workers like a 40 hour week or a minimum wage or even the minimum benefits American workers get compared with European workers. Maybe they will lose all the gains made by the Unions over the last hundred years...I know that's where the GOP wants to go.

Then they throw all that to the side for their special little Consumer Reports Best Buy bullshit. :puke:

14. That's not the worst part
It's the support me and my cause against the evil man trying to destroy my union but to hell with your union.

I'll play nice and not mention the union busting cause I'm refering to. Hint: It gets a lot of threads about it.

20.  this is not a buy american thing.
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 09:36 AM by Lost4words
I used to buy American to support the American worker, The big 3 sent factories out of country anyway, so my paying a premium for inferior American products did nothing to save jobs in the USA and everything to enrich the 1% as they destroy our ability to LIVE. 21. You can buy cars made in America by unionized American Labor
There are still plenty of UAW-built cars out there. Hell, my Corolla was made by UAW labor (that's now officially a Thing of the Past now, however.)

24. Hey the only imports I bought were MG's in the seventys
all others for me were USA, you missed my point, in the case of outsourcing supporting union jobs did nothing to keep jobs in the USA. I drive an 88 mustang. my wife a 99 Jeep. She had two mazdas in the early 80s and they were 100% trouble free.

You dont remember American cars of the mid 70s were just all junk with very few exceptions, and I am a hard core car guy.

try to understand, its jobs leaving, not what country your auto came from.

26. When you buy a German made BMW, VW or really
any European car, you are supporting great unions. 36 hr. work weeks, lots of paid vacations and even beer machines on the factory floor. Most just hate American unions.

11. I feel a little thrill of guilty pleasure
that the professional classes who so long looked down on laborers and Labor are now finding that they're just as expendable. All the little jokes about "buggywhips" and workers holding up shovels ring a little hollow now, don't they?

25. I have a story you might like
I have an uncle who is a retired dentist. About half his patients(the paying ones) either worked at one of the two Ford plants, or the one GM plant(closed now) in the area. He got rich over the years collecting insurance from these companies due to the UAW union contracts. He always bought American made cars back then when he was making his money.

He used that money to put his son through school to become an oral surgeon. The son opened two offices and had about a half a dozen full time employees and he was doing great. He was rolling in the dough. One day a few years ago I noticed they were all driving imported cars. Prime case of I got mine but screw you.

Well I used to talk this cousin up to everyone who asked as the best oral surgeon I knew of in the area. Well, I don't do that any more. Last I heard the cousins wife had to go back to work cleaning teeth and they are trying to sell their condo in Florida. Can't sell it. He had to lay off half his office staff and is thinking about closing one of the offices.

Around here people once had good dental insurance and plenty of money for the type of services my cousin provided. Not any more.

He really showed those overpaid union workers didn't he?
