O.K. So oil is up quite a bit and gas prices here are DOWN? |
|
Is the price of gas and the price of crude so totally disconnected now? What's happening in your "neck of the woods"? We have 2.48 per gallon right now in south central Arkansas.

6. They were storing SO MUCH gasoline that refining it was being reduced now that we're getting past... |
|
...the output of the reduce refining the sons of Satan are raising gas prices even though demand is still down greatly.

8. $2.62 this morning here in Austin. Up 14 cents in the past week. nt |
|
I know as the "economy improves" the price will go up.
If the price is down for you, enjoy it while you can.
As more people go back to work, demand will go up as will the price.

The crooks on Wall Street are driving up the prices of gasoline. With a glut in the marketplace. It makes no sense.

Oil "futures" are up, I believe. It's basically folks betting that in 6 months or so there will be a higher demand for oil. Personally I think they're dreaming, but I'm no fiscal genius so.....

12. Just under $3/gal in Central IN |
|
... but we have the Final Four in town which means (through entirely unrelated, wink wink nudge) that gas prices are jacked up all over the metro area. They have a strange way of going up drastically whenever there's an event happening that attracts alot of out-of-towners, like the Indy 500 or the Brickyard ...

13. just went up from $2.89 to $2.95 in Philly burbs |
|
And I've noticed since gas prices exploded years ago that it's always more expensive in the less affluent areas... something damn fishy with that.

14. the gasoline you buy today was converted into oil about 6 weeks ago. |
|
So the numbers to compare is oil prices & trends 6 weeks ago with gasoline prices & trends today.
You need to shift the two graphs by 6 weeks and then they correlate very well.
Remember also taxes on gas a flat (unlike most taxes). So always subtract taxes when comparing oil to gasoline.
Lastly the relationship is not 1:1 it is more like 2:1. 20% rise in oil is more like an 10% rise in gasoline.

18. $2.75 or so here in Maine |
|
it's rising for the holiday and the summer. The speculators believe the recovery stuff, so expect people to be driving around.
In the meantime, heating oil dropped in the last 2 weeks or so from $2.80 to $2.55. Somewhere around June or July I'll fill my tank. I ran it pretty much out, but only used 300 gallons this winter. 52 degrees almost feels warm to me now, lol.
