AH SCOOPING THE MEDIA AGAIN, On Mexicali (and Tijuana) |
|
Listening to a report from Mexicali.
They just had a press conference, they confirmed the arrival of the President of Mexico to declare the city a Federal disaster zone for federal support, and they are moving people. Oh and Iztecalli (Hospital for the ISSTE in TIjuana) and General Hospital in Tijuana have damage and have been evacuated (that does not shock me actually, especially the latter) and private medical system is going to help. (Translation they have been mobilized, there is a long story on this)
They have activated the DN III plan, (National Disaster Plan) so they have over 3000 Personnel from police and military patrolling the whole county of Mexicali.
They have damage to streets, and a few houses that sank over a meter, (that is substrate.)
They have reestablished 70% of Electrical services
They will need to rebuild some buildings at the University.
For those of you who remember Northridge, this is about par.

1. I read about the hosptial evacuation last night |
|
but there was only one source and there were no pictures, so I didn't post it at the time.
Sometimes the rumor mill is right, sometimes it's not.
Thanks for the update.

4. Two reaosns, I suspect the Media has not been able to cross the border |

chiefly the border is closed (both sides) to vehicular traffic due to damage to the road infrastructure, except the mutual aid emergency vehicles.
And they don't have the pictures of desperate people.
Oh and I doubt Mexico has requested international help, and quite frankly, twenty years ago, they would have needed it. Right now, not anymore. The Civil Defense and EMS infrastructure, as well as heavy rescue, exists.
