Stopping by a foreclosure on a snowy evening...
Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 02:19 PM by HereSince1628
With Apologies to Robert Frost.

Whose house this was I think I know
His job was in automotives, though.
He will not see me stopping here
To watch his lawn weeds overgrow

My analyst doesn’t think it queer
To sit without a mortgage near
Between bankruptcies and underwater loans
On the darker side of a bubble blown.

He’d give my shoulder a hearty shake
And tell me this is no mistake,
there is no sound but a hammer’s pound
as the “Bank Owned” sign is staked in the ground

This cul-de-sac is lovely, dark and deep
But I have promises to keep,
And evictions to serve before I sleep,
And evictions to serve before I sleep.

3. As soon as I saw your thread title, I started composing in my head. Then I read your post ...
and gave it up. No way I could approach that. Brilliant!

4. I vist foreclosed homes every day.
Cold, damp, smelly, stripped of anything useful. It's starting to affect my sanity.

10. I do not envy your proximity to this
It must be very difficult to see the outcome of despair.

13. You can feel the despair when you walk in.
Particularly hard when you see a bedroom with wall murals that you know was where a child slept.

14. Yes, I get it.
I scibled on the walls of my bedroom as a 5 year-old.

That is a very powerful recollection.

Thank-you.

5. I like it, but you got Frost's rhyme scheme wrong
It's like this:

A
A
B
A

B
B
C
B

C
C
D
C

D
D
D
D

Your rhyme scheme, by contrast, works like this:

A
A
B
A

(So far so good!)

B
B
C
C (Here's where you go wrong)

D
D
E
E

F
F
F
F

They're not couplets in Frost's version, as they are in yours after the first stanza. As you can see, Frost's rhyme scheme is considerably more challenging.

Nice job, though, content wise, even if you're off in terms of form.

11. How bad do the agents of banks and mortgage companies feel?
They might feel nothing, and it is parsimonious to assume that's the truth.

But, what if they are REAL human beings? Can you imagine what they feel?
