Uh, what the hell do I say?
A Tea Party friend just offered to take me to a rally in Orlando in the 15th. Nice woman, seriously. So nice that she got her CCW permit right after Obama got elected and carries a gun at all times for fear of Marxist Obama. I am friends with this woman and want to be nice, but she and her friends are nutty. The movie Taxi Driver and that political junk figures in here.

Go or refuse?

Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 02:36 PM by walldude
bring with you a petition to stop all socialist government programs. See how many tea baggers you can get to stop taking medicare, disability, and Social Security. See if they really mean what they say or if they are all full of shit.

22. You can print off little opt-out forms with check-off boxes for the Socialist programs....
... they don't want to participate in any more, such as:

Social Security
SS Disability
Medicare

I'm SURE they would be SO appreciative of your thoughtfulness!

Actually I would stay far, far away from that kind of activity unless I was in a group of a dozen or so stout-hearted Dems. THEN I'd set up a card table to gather signatures on these helpful forms.

8. I don't pick my friends on who they sleep with or vote for
But I damn sure pick em on how they act and those people are running on pure unadulterated ignorance. Whats wrong with honesty, simply tell her you do not agree with the tea party stance?

You'd never be able to score any points in the midst of all the nutters, so it would just be uncomfortable.

I'd pass.

23. She absolutely wants to convert me
I have been friends with this woman ever since her daughter was in high school. Back then she and her husband seemed quite rational and sane for Republicans. Her daughter became a Democrat after she got married. After her daughter's divorce, the daughter was basically re-educated by her mom (the woman I speak of) to believe that George W. Bush was the best POTUS ever, followed by Ronald Reagan. They hate Obama because he's a Democrat and yes, they don't like the fact that his skin color is different. But despite all that, nice people. This woman is very good friends with my parents as well.

Yeah, I might be literally walking into the depths of Hell if I attend the event, but in a way I want to actually experience some of these kooks in real life. I sure as hell won't learn anything and would be far too outnumbered to speak my mind to people. I still might change my mind and conveniently say that I have a root canal or something scheduled for that day. Plenty of time for me to do that. I'm young (mid 30s) so she thinks that she can re-educate me with regard to politics. As her hero Sarah Palin (and Sarah Palin is her hero) would say, "Thanks but no thanks."

I thank you all for the comments and suggestions.

This is not original with me. Someone else said it. I can't remember who...

"The men want to f**k her. The women with low self-esteem want to be her." Yep.

10. By all means, accept the invite. On the way there, you can mention "Oh, by the way....."
-She may assume that most Americans feel the way she does; it's up to you to inform her otherwise.

Tell her you disagree with them (if you do). I think they it's perfectly okay to make them feel marginalized and lonely.

14. It would be a good chance to educate them.
a) Ask how many receive Medicare and SS - socialism programs.
b) Ask how many know that Obamacare and Romnicare are very similar, and a lot like what Bob Dole and Howard Baker proposed.
c) That the bailout happened under Bush, but the govt has made 8%
d) That Obama did NOT take over the auto industry or the banks.
e) There is no penalty for not signing up for Obamacare.

Also, that you will only go if you have a chance to address the group ---- and without any backlash.

19. If she's such a nice lady, why not just defer?
Why do you need advice about how to say "no" to an invitation? Afraid she'll shoot you if you say no? If so, she really ain't so nice. Just sayin'.

20. You have to ask?
Go in the opposite direction as fast as you can. A zig zag pattern to your running would help a lot, because if she's packing heat and sees you escaping, she might start firing.
