'Food, Inc.' and the Tyranny of a Corporate Controlled Economy

'Food, Inc.' and the Tyranny of a Corporate Controlled Economy
The corporate threat to both our health and our liberties...
-- Guest blogged by Ernest A. Canning

We hear it constantly from Republicans; an ideological mantra to the effect that government, especially government programs that would place the interests of public health, safety, and equality above the profits and power of those who already have too much of both, threatens our liberties.

Perhaps in a manner even more successful than Michael Moore's very powerful presentations Sicko! and Capitalism: A Love Story, Robert Kenner and Eric Schlosser, in their Academy Award nominated documentary feature Food, Inc. (trailer posted at end of article), expose the lie behind the myth that so-called "free markets" make us free...

1. Everyone should see Food, Inc. and King Corn
I've always leaned towards natural food, but I've gone pure organic since watching these films.

3. And fyi, it's about more than just how the animals are treated
I've tried to get people to see this film, but they say they don't want to see a movie about farm animals suffering. This film is about a whole lot more than just that. It's about the big brands of all the kinds of food we all buy and eat and what the stuff really is, where it comes from, and how it's processed, packaged and marketed.

I think we should all know what it is we're eating and feeding our families. It's kinda sorta important.

5. How graphic is this movie?
I'm a long time vegetarian. I already know about the suffering of factory farmed animals. If there are only a few scenes that I could quickly FF through, I would consider it, but if it's rife with graphic footage, my spirit just can't take that.

6. There isn't much of that in this film.
They emphasize small farms that are kinder to animals.

7. And what most people do with this info is, once again, the individual solution.
"I've got mine, fuck you."

Look down on those who don't have choices, instead of working for a more just society all around.

8. Netflix has this streaming online. Just an FYI.
I've watched this twice...some parts three times. Highly recommended.
