Author Thomas Frank wrote in "What's the Matter with Kansas?" that "Koch money flowed through Triad Management Services"<3>, an advisory service to conservative donors groups and candidates, for the 1996 Senate campaign of Sam Brownback.<4> Other sources only hint at a connection of Koch family members and Triad.<5>

Koch Industries gave $948,000 to federal candidates in the 05/06 election cycle through its political action committee (PAC) - 17% to Democrats, 82% to Republicans.

The bottom line is that unless you inform the company why you are boycotting them or not using their products and services, how do they know and what difference does it make other than to make you feel good about yourself?

One problem is that there are millions in this country who economically do not have a choice as to buy or use what is the least expensive, unlike here at DU where a recent survey showed nearly half of us have incomes of $50,000 or more. A lot of Americans and even good Democrats do not have the luxury of boycotts or only patronizing "good" companies.

12. The only thing on that list I've bought ...

are the Vanity fair Napkins. I will definitely stop. But I really do prefer them (luncheon size, so we don't waste so much paper) to the junky kind.

I know I should use cloth napkins. I do whenever company comes. But then I have to launder (and often bleach, which is bad) them, and then iron them all. Yuk. I guess I could go get some permanent press napkins in a dark color for every day.

Or I could pretend I didn't read this thread ;)

I use both Sparkle and Mardi Gras....I won't be anymore.

Any suggestions on other types of paper towels? I don't do Proctor and Gamble...they test on animals.

Maybe I should just go CLOTH like my grandmother had to do. I will for napkins....damn hard to give up paper towels. But to keep $$$ out of the Koch family's hands, I can do it. Easy.

I would never buy expensive, non-recycled t-paper, paper towels, etc. Haven't for years.
