Well my LOCAL news station managed to get down to Mexicali |
|
minor damage, relatively speaking.
GO CHANNEL SEVEN.
But again, this is why this is NOT a story. I mean it could be, if they decided to go into... Building Codes and WHY they work.
Oh and if anybody watched, that was the ISSSTE ER, in the open air they showed. It's amazing, the uniforms have not changed in decades.

1. So they enforce strict building codes there? Or any? |

Curious. Ive built some homes down south. I don't remember a whole lot in terms of inspections, permits, and what not.

2. There was one town last night that nobody had heard from yet |
|
Hopefully, the damage was minor, and it was just a case of power being knocked offline.
We had a 6.7 in Seattle in 2001. I don't care to repeat the experience. ;-)

3. In mexico or the US? Listened to Mexican Radio all day |
|
and they have accounted for all Major and somewhat major urban centers. Hell one call was humorous To this crusty old former EMS worker. Woman was complaining that they said that nothing happened in Ensenada. I mean there was an ammonia leak near her place controlled by the Fire Department. Well in the world of Emergency Response since nobody got hurt, and there was not that bad of property damage it meas you got a green light for the city. I almost called the radio station to explain that.
:-)
They are now going to the Ejidos and things like that next. Oh and the DN-111, National Disaster Plan, is now in effect... which means all local and state gets a lot of back up from the army, which can use choppers to go to some of those areas (Might be needed since the road infrastructure is kind of a mess)
I realized though why the Mexicali Media was off (still is actually, last time I dare check)... the antennas for the radio stations were on the Civic Center, which suffered damage. I guess I should check later.

5. Yes, as of five 70% of the buildings in downtown |
|
were still red tagged according to local station, and they lost power for a few hours yesterday.
There is also damage on I-8, and at one point the road was closed West Bound. I don't know if Caltrans has fixed that little mess.
They reported no deaths, and no injuries, but way things go... it is funny, the kid in Chula Vista that ran out in the middle of the quake and got himself hurt (tripped) will be a quake stat. If somebody shows up at the local ER with a twisted ankle... not so much.
Yes it is weird.
