a fine example of Christian love in Mississippi (it isn't only gays apparently)
http://www.pamshouseblend.com/diary/15752/christianity-in-mississippi-constance-mcmillen-sent-to-fake-prom

McMillen tells The Advocate that a parent-organized prom happened behind her back - she and her date were sent to a Friday night event at a country club in Fulton, Miss., that attracted only five other students. Her school principal and teachers served as chaperones, but clearly there wasn't much to keep an eye on.
"They had two proms and I was only invited to one of them," McMillen says. "The one that I went to had seven people there, and everyone went to the other one I wasn't invited to."
Last week McMillen asked one of the students organizing the prom for details about the event, and was directed to the country club. "It hurts my feelings," McMillen says.

Two students with learning difficulties were among the seven people at the country club event, McMillen recalls. "They had the time of their lives," McMillen says. "That's the one good thing that come out of this, didn't have to worry about people making fun of them ."

There are no words for this. Honestly, no words whatsoever. I hope the judge throws the book at these people.

1. Disgusting
And as a friend pointed out, nice lesson for the "in" kids, too - lying is just fine, though being gay or learning disabled is a big problem.

Vile people.

2. Private parties, so it's really out of the hands of the law
And of course I'm sure many of them will grow up and join all white country clubs.

4. except the district swore in court that she was invited to this private prom
in order to get the judge not to order them to have the original public prom.

3. That is just fucking wrong. At least the good side is it's more fuel for the lawsuit.

5. The world deserves a book, a documentary film, or a movie based on real life to record
this event. Any of the three would be eligible- a movie would draw more people. The writing could begin now, though we don't know the end yet - the legal outcome. An apology or two or more. A whistleblower. New friends made.

It could even have two parts, one to be written in years to come where the players are tracked as to what they are doing now - maybe some voluntary interviews.

I think a book and a movie could be written - with the book showing photos of all the players to the extent the law would permit.

This is classic America US - someone always being left out because of feelings of superiority. Someone denigrated. So many groups have taken their turn.

Superiority we see played out every day in politics. Supremacists. TV networkds and religious leaders taking the lead and washing brains.

Peace on earth good will to men - is a false greeting from many in this country.

All beings are created equally is a lie. I always say the only things that this country has been superior at are - technology and work ethic. All else is a lie. And the technology has been stolen, allowed to be stolen, sold, moved, traded, profited from by a few - with the money being parked outside the country and the business registered outside to avoid the limitations by law - to pollution, workmens compensation, OHSA rules, etc - and the kill of unions and the push to McDonalds.

Please - someone do something with this story. Document it. Expose it. Make them squirm. Make people realize that the world is speeding up, but it is getting smaller. Remind them. It's this young girls' life, but it also our country's story. Go for it.

7. If they profess to be Christian they aren't
Jesus included everyone. I pity people who debase Christianity by excluding. These aren't truly Christian people except by their own self description.

Jesus represented love and compassion for all, not hatred.

Don't judge all Christians by intolerant subsets of individuals.

8. I wan't hitting on Christians in this post. I only mentioned Reverends as part of the problem. Not
all - the political ones who share an agenda with PNAC types. I'm not sure exactly what you are referring to about what I wrote. The emphasis is on humanity in general, not Christians. This wasn't exactly like some other things that happen - I have no idea of the demographics of those that manipulate a usually shared and inclusive event of young adult-teens.

6. Sometimes I think for many this country needs to be renamed from US to
"Bigots United." I find crap like this so backward and disgusting. Words fail to describe these vile people. I'm glad the party of 7 had fun. In the big picture they are the far better people in the world.
