Women try to take body on plane at Liverpool airport

Police have arrested two women after they tried to take the body of a dead relative onto a plane at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.

Staff became suspicious when the women tried to check in the man, who was wearing sunglasses, for a flight to Berlin on Saturday.

The man is thought to have died the previous day and was in a wheelchair.

The women, aged 41 and 66, were arrested on suspicion of failing to give notification of a death.

The pair, who are German nationals but live in Oldham, have been released on bail until 1 June, police said.

Officers are investigating reports that the body had been taken to the airport by taxi from Oldham, a spokesman said.

2. Now there's a tough choice
If I'm on a long flight and have no better options, do I take the seat next to the screaming baby, or next to the dead guy?

And would it be wrong to take his peanuts? He's really not going to be needing them, is he?

3. I swear they were recreating the Dead Parrot sketch
The women, aged 41 and 66, were travelling with two young children and arrived by taxi for the easyJet flight to Berlin at around 11am on Saturday (April 3).

Astoundingly, the party had pre-booked assistance for their "disabled" relative, and airport worker Andrew Millea was waiting for their taxi with a wheelchair.
...
"She told me that he was elderly and frail, and also very tired, so I would have to lift him out of the taxi and into the wheelchair.

"I immediately felt unsure about the situation, but I did my best to help by carefully lifting the man from his seat. To my horror his face fell sideways against mine, it was ice cold.

"I knew straight away that the man was dead, but they reassured me that he 'always sleeps like that'.

The children are either going to need therapy for life, or they'll have stories they can dine out on forever.
