Maybe it's the towers (or ones like them)?
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/050307dnmetstorm.347b348.htmlViolent thunderstorms packing hurricane-force winds tore through North Texas on Wednesday evening, slamming trees into homes, toppling tractor-trailers and leaving hundreds of thousands without power.
The winds – gusting as high as 100 mph – caused widely scattered property and tree damage but no apparent serious injuries.
In addition to the power lines downed in the area, more than a dozen large regional transmission towers north of Waco had been blown over. -----------------------
The local stations were on all evening here in Plano...which is a miracle in itself since I have Time Warner and they can go DOWN pretty much weekly in GOOD weather so how the hell it stayed on tonight is beyond me.
I now have a huge tree in my driveway...a taller-than-my-2-story-house tree. It's my neigbor's tree. Part of it fell onto their house, the other part towards my house and my driveway. Missed my car, though, thank goodness. One truck in my neighborhood is totally UNDER a big ol' tree. Apparently Parker Rd in Plano was blocked by numerous trees and other debris after the storm came thru. 300,000 down in the DFW without electricity.
Channel 8 covered the storm til 8 pm, then made a half hearted attempt to tell people directly in the DFW area that they were going to stay on the air and still cover the storm even though Lost was about to come on..saying pretty much "be patient with the coverage, there are still people to the east and north of Dallas being hit right now with the storm that we all got..they are your neighbors, you know". Two seconds later they go "Um, we're going to resume Lost now but we'll keep an eye on the storm". So much for their concern for "our neighbors" And the 8pm showing of Lost was a frigging **repeat**.
