Iraq lawmakers' vacation plans draw fire

By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer 2 hours, 4 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Lawmakers divided over whether to keep U.S. troops in Iraq are finding common ground on at least one topic: They are furious that Iraqi politicians are considering a lengthy break this summer.

"If they go off on vacation for two months while our troops fight — that would be the outrage of outrages," said Rep. Chris Shays, R-Conn.

The Iraq parliament's recess, starting this July, would likely come without Baghdad politicians reaching agreements considered key to easing sectarian tensions. Examples include regulating distribution of the country's oil wealth and reversing measures that have excluded many Sunnis from jobs and government positions because of Baath party membership.

Talk of the adjournment comes amid a heated debate in Congress on the pullout of U.S. troops in Iraq.

1. Afterwhich Shays Licked His Balls and Went Back To His Corner
Yep...if those Iraqis want a proper vacation, they need to take the FULL Friedman.

I'll be curious about all these Repugnicans who claim "outrage" out of one side of their mouths and vote to enable this regime and screw the troops by voting to sustain the veto less than 24 hours earlier. Shays is a complete hack.

Wanns bet come Fall these same Repugnicans who claim their "patience is running out" will roll over and kick this can further down the road...cause it's all about pushing this war onto the next Administration and trying to get as much plunder out of this dead horse before the party ends in Nov. '08.

2. Don't you think the ones that are up for reelection have,
or will have, a more self-serving POV?

4. Not If Money Means More
I expect the blinders to remain firmly on most Repugnicans about this invasion for at least a year, if not longer...cause that's what serves their best interest. They don't have to face the entire electorate for another 16 months, but they do have to face their own base a lot sooner. That's why Rudy McRomney all kiss up to this invasion and fall all over each other to promote even more bloodlust. This is what their base wants to hear...will write checks to hear it even more.

Many GOOPers know next year's elections are gonna be brutal...and that the money will be needed more than ever...and have to come from sources other than Abramoff and the other money launderers. Money trumps principal every time.

Cheers...
