Tired of the Wars
I've not served a day in Iraq or Afghanistan, yet the constant slog of turning on the news, learning the latest casualty figures, and---even worse---hearing the "military analysts" issue their Grand Proclamations as to What It All Means, leaves me physically drained!

I'm not alone: A female friend, who jogs every evening, has described to me how, after an invigorating run, she's had her energy sapped, neutralized, sometimes turned into actual anxiety upon viewing the reportage of futility.

Aren't you exhausted as well? Just think of how our TROOPS must feel!

In Iraq, we must strictly adhere to the timetable of withdrawal: ALL OF OUR YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN OUT OF THERE BY THE END OF NEXT YEAR, no matter WHAT ensues after our departure!

The Afghanistan mission was something I initially approved of, but turned against after the Dick Bush Administration turned their gaze away from bin Laden. Will the Taliban return to power after we leave? Yes. But that is not our problem! There are dozens of despotic regimes in this world: We cannot police them all! Upon Mullah Omar's return to power, we need only truncate the regime's ability to provide al Qaeda with a reliable base of operations. This can be accomplished via surgical strikes involving drones and a minimal number of Special Forces troops.

Iran? Let the Israelis deal with it! They are more than capable!

Our Experiment in Empire must end! Hey, psst, let's try being a Republic again.

The plea of George McGovern, delivered on that late summer night so very long ago, is entirely applicable and appropriate today:

Come Home, America!

1. Learning the latest casualty figures? What are you watching?
I wish there was more attention being paid by "the media".

3. In other NATO countries.....
...the media does show the names, the hometowns, and the families of the fallen.

Something we should definitely emulate.
