Edited on Wed Apr-07-10 07:32 PM by LeftWingPunk
If they pick Palin, Bachmann, Pawlenty, Jindal, Huckabee, Thompson, Brownback, or Perry it could be another 1936 or 1964

If they pick Mitt Romney Mitch Daniels or Rudy Giuliani it could be a close election like 1960 or 1968. I personally think that if they want to win they should pick Giuliani because he's from a democratic state (New York) and if he could get the state of New York to vote republican it would win. Romney is basically the same as Giuliani as he is from a left wing state but his LDS faith would make him more of a liability.

Ok, I know it sounds like I'm a republican but I'm not. All I'm trying to do is to figure out what they are thinking. Hopefully they pick someone like Michelle Bachmann or Rick Perry.

2. New York won't vote for Giuliani. Ever.
We wouldn't even send him to the Senate, let alone to the White House.

5. I really don't think they have a viable candidate.
And with the teabaggers threatening any true moderate with their divisive talk, I doubt they will be able to put any viable candidate up.

6. No one from that other party is going to run a close race if we work hard.
I do not think that any of the potential candidates you mention will get more that 43% in the general election. But we Democrats have to work as hard as we possibly can in order to keep the independent vote on our side.

7. No reasonable RRRepublican will run thanks to the wingnut control of the GOP.
But their primary battle sghould be a laff riot.

Light butter on mine, thanks.

11. Why are you trying to forcast so far ahead
of time ? We're still less than 50% into Obama's first term.

Very curious.....

my response to that question is because I read in the news today that there was a GOP rally in Minneapolis and that Bachmann was saying something about how they are going to get the most rock ribbed conservative president of all time to beat Obama in 2012. If they are forecasting far ahead, why not have us democrats do the same?

31. Losers are the ones that need to worry about
next time.

Winners try to build a foundation for governing that ensures loyalty and trust. Poisting hypotheticals less than 15 months into the Presidents term seems a little odd to me.

12. The GOP has nobody who can beat Obama.
Nobody. Nada. Zip. Butkis. And here's why:

Charisma and looks win elections. Between good looking and ugly, good looking wins - and qualifications be damned. Between charismatic and boring, charismatic wins every time. This is the 21st century, and media is everything in elections. The media likes charisma and good looks; go figure.

In 2000, Al Gore was as qualified a candidate as you'll see. Eight years as VP, a long stint as Senator, decades in public service. Why did he lose to Bush, apart from the shenanigans in Florida? That election shouldn't have even been close! But Gore was boring, and you can't sell boring.

Barack Obama is the most charismatic, the most dynamic, the most rock-star of any politician in decades. There's nobody in the GOP who can even give him a run for his money. At this point, Barack Obama will win in 2012, and the only one who can defeat him is Barack Obama.

And Obama is too smart to screw up. Barring tragedy, Obama will be our President until January 20, 2017.

13. The corporations who put our candidates in power already have
a politician banging the GOP drum, why mess with it until 2016. Under Obama we've gotten the most important GOP/Corporate legislation signed into law.

17. Based on the love affair the media has had with Bachman-Palin...
we may have a chance yet. If ever there were two more incoherent, silly individuals...but the GOP cannot help themselves. They forget that independents are specifically not republicans.

The other alternative universe pairing, Pawlenty-Romney, is such a snoozer as needing to be a licensed narcotic.

20. Pawlenty/Romney is their best ticket. Let's face it they don't need the south on the ticket to win
it. Their nominees need to only come from outside the south if they want to win. Brown would be a big time score for VP on their side. I'd like to see him try so Obama would crush his soul in the general and then he's lose his seat too. That would be so sweet.

Excuse me, but Obama is not getting my vote again, regardless of the nutbar the Republican's hang out in the wind.

The only person I could even think of voting for right now is Kucinich, but we all know the Powers that be are scared to death of Dennic, and will exclude him utterly.

rudy obviously

Romney is on two sides of two many issues and the passing of a health care bill that resembled what he did in MA effectively eliminated him.

Nobody, but nobody, seriously considers Palin a contender.

She's just a warm up act, not a headliner.
