Tea Party - More Fox News Fans Club Than Republican Junior Varsity?
Edited on Thu Apr-08-10 12:31 AM by TomCADem
A lot has been made of the fact that many members of the Tea Party "movement" generally vote Republican anyways. However, what I wonder is what is the correlation between members of the Tea Party and those who watch Fox News? Jon Stewart has run innumerable segments about how members of the Tea Party simply recite Fox News/Frank Lutz talking points such as Health Care Reform "being rammed down our throat." Thus, is it more appropriate to view the Tea Party "movement" as merely being an extension of Fox News?

In other words, Fox News' coverage of Tea Party activities is not merely biased. Rather, Fox News really is the founder and organizer of the Tea Party movement. The tail is wagging the dog. Afterall, would there be a Tea Party if Rick Santelli did not make a "spontaneous" outburst on CNBC about a Tea Party, then Fox News co-opting this phraseology with a network wide promotion of the Tea Party "movement" with various Fox News personalities reporting on (hosting) rallies with Fox News producers being caught cheerleading outside of camera shot?

Heck, you have Mormon Glenn Beck being so bold as to tell Christians how they should worship, and how they should shun churches that preach social justice.

The god is capitalism. The holy son is Rupert Murdoch, and Glen Beck, Sean Hannity, and the rest of the Fox News cast are the disciples in this godless religion that promotes the free market as holy, and social justice as an evil that must be crushed.

2. PROTEST AGAINST THEM! STAND UP!
Stand Against Tea Party Extremism!

On Sunday April 11th, the “Tea Party Express” will be bringing their message of racism, sexism, Anti-LGBT bigotry, open calls for terrorist violence, and total de-regulation of capitalism to the Cleveland Area.

Those of us in Cleveland who oppose this ugly movement that shouts racist and homophobic slurs at members of Congress, and engages in terroristic acts of violence against those fighting for a better world will be rallying against this right-wing show of force.

It is incorrect for the forces of social progress to stand by and allow dangerous ultra-rightist elements hijack the outrage of working people in this economic crisis and channel our anger in a racist direction . We must counter the Tea Party extremists, and make it clear that they are not a real alternative to the status quo, and do not offer a hopeful program for the future.

The local chapters of Fight Imperialism – Stand Together, Bail Out The People Movement, Workers World Party, and other progressive organizations say “Be there! Stand up for freedom, equality and justice against ultra-rightist and proto-fascistic elements rallying under the ‘tea party’ banner!”

Fox and drag the GOP even further right than they want to go. I think Fox's playing politics will be a disaster for the GOP in November, and will work to our advantage.
