Wife of "Pimp My Ride" and former "Survivor" producer found dead
Mexico: Hollywood producer suspect in wife's death
By E. EDUARDO CASTILLO, Associated Press Writer

Thursday, April 8, 2010

(04-08) 13:20 PDT MEXICO CITY, Mexico (AP) --

"Pimp My Ride" and former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman is a suspect in his wife's death days after reporting her missing in the resort city of Cancun, a Mexican official said Thursday.

The body of Monica Beresford-Redman was found Thursday in a sewer at the swanky Moon Palace resort where the family was on vacation, according to Bello Rodriguez, the attorney general for Quintana Roo state, where Cancun is located.

Rodriguez said a security guard at the hotel saw the couple arguing Monday night and said Beresford-Redman tried to hit her.

Beresford-Redman, who has been detained as a suspect, had scratches on his neck and officials were doing toxicology tests to determine if he had consumed drugs, Rodriguez said.

The cause of death has not been determined.

3. Not just the stuff of crime drama.. When married women are murdered..
..it is most likely the husband/partner who did it..

4. Do you have a source for that?
I've seen that factoid cited countless times, and I've frequently asserted it myself, but I don't know that I've ever seen hard data on it.

9. That's a very different assertion.
I'm not asking whether or not immediate family members are looked at first; I'm asking if the husband of a murdered woman is the most likely suspect. It may certainly be the case, but I'd like to see data in support of it. And, if he is the most likely suspect, how often does that translate to an actual conviction or guilty plea?

I recall a statement in a film--which I grant is hardly a definitive source--that directly contradicts the conventional wisdom that the spouse is the most likely suspect.

Since I myself have asserted that the husband is the most likely suspect in such a murder, it occurred to me that I should probably attempt to corroborate my information, but I can't find a source for that statistic.

15. NOW states that for 2005, the Bureau of Justice Statistics reports that:
"MURDER
In 2005, 1,181 women were murdered by an intimate partner.1 That's an average of three women every day. Of all the women murdered in the U.S., about one-third were killed by an intimate partner."

http://www.now.org/issues/violence/stats.html

they got their numbers from the DOJ
http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/ looks like there are probably newer numbers available.
I don't have time to read through it now...here it is. I guess I'll book mark this thread and read it later.

I would also be curious about demographics per state and metropolitan areas as well, now that you mention this.

19. Hi MrsBrady..
I posted that very same stat in a previous thread:

"In 2005, 1,181 women were murdered by an intimate partner.1 That's an average of three women every day. Of all the women murdered in the U.S."

And asked DU readers if we replaced the "three women" element of that, to, oh say, "three Jewish people" killed every day in the US, or "three African-Americans" killed every day in the US, simply because they were Jewish, or African-American, what kind of outcry in this country would there be?

I mean, why is it, that women dying in numbers like this, doesn't even seem to register on the moral radar of the American public?

Somebody help me make sense of what makes no sense.

16. One source:
"In the most serious cases of violence men dominate. Women are much more likely to be murdered by an intimate partner, regardless of who started the fight. Among the persons killed by an intimate partner, about three quarters are female, and about a quarter are male: in 1999, in the US, 1,218 women and 424 men were killed by an intimate partner, regardless of which partner started the violence and of the gender of the partner.<25> In the US, in 2005, 1181 females and 329 males were killed by their intimate partners.<26> <27>"

11. Pop the top off, shove the body down the manhole, pop the top back on
and walk away, pretending you're some kind of victim.

14. It's Mexico...
In many areas, the country has open sewers...or shall we say, cesspools...a convenient place to dump a body.

10. I smelled a rat when the story said she was missing in Cancun
Mexican authorities go far out of their way to make sure the tourist centers remain safe for foreigners with money. The rest of the country is less so, and a kidnapping story might have stuck better there.

Not in Cancun.
