Chris Matthews semi-endorsed John McCain Wednesday on "Hardball" and then immediately rescinded his endorsement.

"He's a great guy from Arizona," Matthews said of McCain. "He's in the tradition of Barry Goldwater. He's a maverick like Barry Goldwater was a maverick....Look, if my endorsement helps you, John McCain, you've got it. If it doesn't, throw me under the bus."

Moments later, Matthews took it back.

"I don't endorse, by the way," he said.

1. Chris Matthews looks exactly like my new garden gnome.

I'm not being facetious. When he (it) was delivered last week I opened the box and kept thinking it looked familiar until "Hardball" came on.

He is currently sitting in my butterfly garden where the little dogs use him as a pee post. Maybe I can find one that looks like John McCain...how hard could that be?
