A (perhaps stupid) question about the Catholic Church scandal |

Why aren't these priests being indicted? Statute of limitations? Couldn't high level Church officials be charged with concealing felonies? For sure there are moral issues but there are serious legal issues too.

NPR's Fresh Air ran a program last week in which the problem of prosecution was discussed, and the statute of limitations is indeed a major factor. In a distressing number of cases, the victims don't come forth until they've reached adulthood, by which time the statute of limitations may very likely have expired.
