1. CNN had this to say
CNN had this to say about Stupak;

Marquette, Michigan (CNN) – Nine-term Democratic Rep. Bart Stupak, D-Michigan, will reveal Friday he is retiring from Congress, several Democratic sources close to Stupak tell CNN.

The anti-abortion Democrat has been facing opposition from both the right and the left for his 11th hour deal with the White House that he says bans federal funding for abortion. The deal ultimately led to his decisive vote in favor of the health care bill.

Sorry to see him go. NOT!

5. It won't happen. He's in a conservative district. If it's true he's
retiring,it's another seat for the republicans.

6. He Lost His Cheap Room & Board...
As usual the headline is written by someone on the rushpublican payroll...as Stupak didn't "cut a deal", he tried to scuttle the entire bill and came up short with the votes. The only deal he wanted to cut was to prevent women from having the rights over their own bodies. CYA, Bart...enjoy your "retirement".

9. are you going to "enjoy" his anti-abortion, pro-war republican successor?
Edited on Fri Apr-09-10 09:19 AM by onenote
Because that's what you are going to get. Did you like the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the extension of SCHIP, the Recovery and Reinvestment Act? Stupak's replacement is going to be someone who would have voted against each of those bills and likely will vote against other measures that you support.

So, let's do the math. On abortion, you end up no better off. On everything else, you end up worse off. Yet you apparently think this is a good result.

Hokay.

12. It's Not My Choice...
It's up to the voters in his district. It's also up to the Democratic party to support the candidate and make sure they have the funds and other resources to openly compete. Then we'll see where the pieces fall.

Also, I didn't advocate his retirement (not that it matters), he chose to do this and he's the one who is walking away from all the votes and causes you state. I'm pointing out the fact that he almost destroyed the opportunity for millions to get much needed health care coverage for a pet issue that was "settled law" and served as a proxy for right wing bishops who wanted to inject their religious beliefs into law. Are you OK with that? Or with his C Street connections?

Again, he chose to walk away...put the blame where it belongs.

Cheers...
