So David Shuster's desire for a better job makes him "not moral, ethical, or professional?"
Edited on Fri Apr-09-10 08:04 AM by Amerigo Vespucci

MSNBC President Phil Griffin ripped suspended anchor David Shuster in an email to an angry fan.

"Sorry, but this is a business and I need team players," Griffin said in an e-mail (via Mediaite). "(Shuster) was not moral, ethical or professional and that is not fair to the 500 people who work at (MSNBC)."

Griffin reportedly "ripped Shuster a new one" when the news broke that he had filmed a pilot for CNN, a move that would ultimately lead to Griffin suspending him from the network indefinitely.

2. A Contract Is A Contract...
Griffin is 100% right...Shuster violated his contract by doing a pilot for a major competitor without any consent from his current employers. I still would like to hear David's side of the story...what drove him to do this. While I've enjoyed David's work, I also believe that when you sign on the dotted line you owe the company 100% dedication...being a "team player". Surely he has an agent who could do the negotiating with him and if he wanted out of the network a deal could be arranged or he waits the several months until his deal is done and then solicit for a new job. Now he's screwed the pooch...as by losing his air gig (and my bets are MSNBC will now hold him to the end of his deal and keep him "shelved") his value has gone down as well as shown a future employer that he can't be trusted. A shame, as I say I like David and wish him the best...and hopefully he'll land with CNN once this mess blows over (not that I care to watch CNN)...still this was a stupid move, period.

3. My hope....
that David Shuster had an excellent attorney that takes MSNBC to cleaners if they can prove slander in Mr.Griffin's comments. For all we know, Shuster was not planning on leaving the network until after his contract was up and only participated in the pilot for CNN for future show. I am in HR and while I haven't seen the contract he had, I don't believe that anyone can be faulted for discussions pertaining to later employment. Would be interesting to see the contract. My feel is that there are higher profile people being courted by CNN and MSNBC is running scared to lose them. Shuster just provided the fodder to scare them.

I miss Shuster, he was a breath of fresh air because he actually ch alleged people who blatantly lied about facts. I guess not lock-step enough for MSNBC during the day. Shame, shame...and if that email is the real deal, what a jackass Griffin is.

4. When I'm watching Shuster on MSNBC...
...I'm not watching MSNBC, I'm watching Shuster.

If he goes to CNN, I'll watch him there.

Yes, Mr Griffin, it is a business. So quit crying like your 8th grade girlfriend broke up with you by text message. Shuster got caught applying for another job. You fired him. Move on.
