Gingrich vows to shut down government for two years if GOP retakes Congress, will repeal 'virtually everything' Obama has done

http://www.americablog.com/2010/04/gingrich-vows-to-shut-down-government.html

Virtually everything?

Ban on pre-existing conditions.
Adding kids to parents' health insurance.
Affordable student loans.
Equal pay.

Really?

And shutting down the government worked so well in the 1990s when Gingrich shut down the government, and it blew up in his face. How many normal Americans really want to shut down the EPA for two years? This is insane. Dems need ads on TV right now showing Gingrich talking about shutting down the EPA for two years. So much for safe drinking water. Would you like some botulism with your hamburger little boy?

20. That was my first thought.
When he says "we," what does he mean, exactly?

Is he telling us that he still has power over actual members of Congress?

Or is he just a deluded egomaniac?

I guess both could apply.

9. Average age of the people involved and sophistication of arguments.
Conservativs are old usually conjure up a much more detailed bullshit argument. Anarchists are usually young and don't bother with many justifications. That's pretty much the only reason I can come up with.

6. Funny thing is, Obama has a veto pen.
So unless he plans on taking 3/4ths of the House and the Senate, he wouldn't repeal squat.

7. Didn't he try that in the 90's?
And we all remember how well THAT worked out for them. Bring it on, Newt!

The definition on insanity certainly applies here.

10. Um, Newt?
Two things:

1) You're not in Congress any more so you can't shut down JACK.

2) Do you not recall what happened the LAST time Republicans shut down the government? You sealed President Clinton's reelection.

12. Desperation: Talking exclusively to their rabid base, BECAUSE IT IS CRACKING.
Aside from what I disagree with vehemently, When I see Teapartyers holding signs I AGREE WITH, I know Repuglycans have troubles.

I agree with the Tea Party regarding Wall Street Corruption and about auditing the Federal Reserve. I suspect there are other principles that we share, e.g. respect for FREEDOM.

15. Why does anyone vote for these people
538 has them winning about 40 house seats and probably 5 senate seats. What is wrong with people?

They are going to try to shut down the gov. in the midst of all these severe problems? Acting like 5 year olds? And they'll be rewarded for it too by winning an election.

16. Why doesn't someone dredge up whey he quit congress in the first place
because like Hannity he had and organization thru which he was funneling money to himself. he quit before he could be prosecuted. But then look at delay. Five years and not prosecuted.

19. Jeebus Fuck. Honestly, Is Anyone In This Country Paying Attention?
You've got one party bending over backward to make concessions to the other party. And you've got the other party just flatly refusing to accept anything. And meanwhile, neither party is representing the people. And nobody gets anything real except for the corporations.

This country is well and truly fucked. God DAMN I wish I could afford to move to Canada. At least there, everyone has a right not to die unnecessarily, and I've got the same rights as everyone else.

21. He's not even in the governent
Who made him king of the GOP?

Newt, here's a lesson in Government. You have to be in office to shut down the government. You did that when you were speaker and it really didn't work out all that well for you. In fact, you resigned.

He has no power, other than his loud mouth. He'll need more than that.
