Just keep this word in mind "Unelectable" |
|
Palin or the salamander gingrich running for president, it would be just like Limbaugh or Glen Beck running, all four are so far on the fringe right there is not enough to EVER get them elected.

1. That's the surest way to make an opponent electable. By thinking of him/her as "unelectable." |
|
Edited on Fri Apr-09-10 01:34 PM by ClassWarrior
No one eligible to run is "unelectable." And it's political suicide to fool oneself into thinking any opponent is.

2. No, Sarah Palin IS unelectable, outside of Obama being caught in a dead girl/live boy scenario. |

5. Seeing as how I was 3 when he left office, I didn't get much out of the Reagan Presidency. |
|
And this comparison is getting really stale for a few reasons:
1) Reagan was capable of stringing words together to make sentences and was enormously popular outside of just the conservative base.
2) Reagan ran for President in an era before the 24-hour news cycle.
3) There was no YouTube or Twitter or instant recall when Ronald Reagan ran for President.
4) Sarah Palin has a Gollum-like relationship with the media, whereas Reagan loved the cameras and was actually capable of building consensus (see: his friendship with Tip O'Neill).
Sarah Palin has rendered herself unelectable. Not that it matters, since I don't think she's ever going to run for President.

19. Seeing as you were 3 when he left office, you didn't know a time when he was considered... |
|
...a right-wing whack job actor. Yes, there was a time when he was NOT enormously popular outside of the conservative base. And was considered a TOTAL lightweight because he was the "Bedtime for Bonzo" star.

I remember laughing so hard when pundits said that Governor Reagan would be President someday. Yes, he would win that one for the Gipper. And W? That buffoon?
Never underestimate the stupidity...
When I type that, Reagan and W., it makes me think of King Lear's daughters, Regan and Goneril. I don't know why. They did wreak quite a bit of havoc, though.

|
Sarah Palin didn't even last two years in one of the least populous states.

4. It is possible that someday Palin may run as a third party. Looks |
|
like that is the direction she and her sidekick, Bachmann may be going. If so, it could wind up like other third party candidates, always on the outside looking in. Traditionaly third parties never come very close to winning. Of course there is a first time for everything.

9. agree with what you say, however, |
|
the press, and other forces, seem bent on making her electable.
Why would groups such as the wine and spirits association (or whatever it was) pay her to speak, and big bucks at that, unless there was some sort of "electability" or the desire to increase her electability in there?

the same would have been said about Barack Obama in 2008. Fortunes and expectations change rapidly in politics.

20. She would have to run with a third party, and I think all she'll ever be capable of |
|
is splitting the vote so someone else wins.
And even if she were to God forbid somehow win, it wouldn't last long. After six months, she'd quit.
