Humbled CNN backpedals on gay ‘cure’ segment
CNN's Kyra Phillips didn't exactly apologize for devoting a segment of her show to a widely-discredited theory that homosexuality can be "cured," but her declaration Friday that she is an "unswerving" supporter of gay rights came pretty close.

"I would like to take a moment to address many of you who e-mailed me about our Tuesday segment on this topic," Phillips said.

"Personally, I thought the absurd nature of the California law we discussed would speak for itself, but unfortunately, not everyone saw it that way. Richard Cohen was not the most appropriate guest to have on, but it is a decision that we made and the result of that is our continued discussion today."

<snip>

"As a journalist with a long track record of covering gay and lesbian issues, I wish that those of you who sent me vicious e-mails watched my newscast more often, because if they did, my guess is, would not have been so quick to send such hateful messages," Phillips said Friday.

"They don't know my record and my unswerving support for all communities in the battle for human rights, including gays, lesbians, and transgendered individuals."

1. What a passive aggressive "apology" --
"I wish that those of you who sent me vicious e-mails watched my newscast more often..."

So it's viewers' fault for not watching her fucking show?

And the messages she got were "hateful" -- again trying to shift blame.

Didn't watch her show before, sure as fuck won't watch it now!

4. why would anyone watch Kyra unless some relevant piece advertised to be insulting
catches your eye...and then she is shocked and surprised by criticism.

5. I did the right thing once or twice so I can do the wrong thing too.
Odd morality she professes.

7. If she is so unswervingly supportive, why did she treat the theory
seriously and invite as a guest someone who has been so thoroughly discredited? She swerved, and so deserves the flak she is getting.

The epitaph of a skunk.

9. Never Seen One Of Your Segments, And I Don't Know Your Record, Kyra
Edited on Fri Apr-09-10 04:14 PM by Toasterlad
I DO know that no legitimate journalist - and certainly not an "unswerving supporter of gay rights" - would present any gay-curing scam as a subject deserving serious discussion.

11. But others on CNN have already been pushing this cure crap
and she just joined in. Her report was a thing out of the Dark Ages, and clearly she thinks better of herself than I do.
Sanchez was pulling the same crap. This Phillips refuses to address the obvious editorial choices being made and then broadcast by herself, Sanchez and other CNN hate mongers
