J.C. Watts: 'History's going to be kind to George W. Bush'
NEW ORLEANS -- There was a marked shift of tone inside the SRLC ballroom when former congressman J.C. Watts followed Liz Cheney.

While the former vice president's daughter went with hammer and tongs at Barack Obama, Watts hardly mentioned the president, sticking to positive talk about conservatives' values and cute anecdotes about his alma mater and his family. The closest he got to a hit on Obama was "my president asking France and Germany to defend herself." The biggest applause he got -- the biggest of this conference so far -- came when he defended Obama's predecessor.

"Some might think that George W. Bush had his shortcomings," said Watts, "but let me tell you something -- history's going to be kind to George W. Bush."

The praise for Bush inspired a standing ovation. Watts, who left Congress in 2003, was one of the rare Republicans who never criticized Bush, even in the nadir at the end of his presidency."

2. History is written by the literate
and I doubt the literate are going to be kind to that ignorant, violent, horrible man who was illegally installed into office by a corrupt and partisan US Supreme Court.

It's just not going to happen.

15. I would love to believe you
I am hesitant given the fact that Ronald Regan is considered one of the top 10 presidents in history. Perhaps history is written by the literate, but the textbooks with which our children are taught history come from Texas and they are re-writing it to favor people like Phyllis Schafly and exclude Thomas Jefferson.

22. Textbooks have always been a collection of jingoistic myths
and other crap designed to produce patriotic and obedient workers. Relying on them for a knowledge of history is like relying on Pox News for knowledge of the world around you today and it's always been like that.

I'm not talking about the kiddie books, which will likely stay at least as wretchedly bad as they've always been. I'm talking about history, and that is invariably written by the literate.

17. Except BushInc and WaPost bought control of textbook publishers long ago....
and until these traitors are fully exposed, they WILL continue to rewrite history in THEIR favor.....and not just in Texas.

8. Why not? It would be the perfect capper to a life of brilliant non-achievement
He's spent his whole life failing upwards- Why not a favorable mention in the history books for an encore?

where the majority of Americans blamed Bush for the current economic mess.

11. My daughter has a mutual friend with JC Watt's family.
They say they don't know what happened to him. The entire family are very staunch Democrats and they consider him to have gone far astray. But they still love him.

as the beginning of the end of the Republic.

No, Mr. Watts; history will not be kind to GWB.

16. Considering junior's approval ratings were in the near-teens at the end of
his administration in the wake of pre-emptive war, torture, out-of control budget deficits, a burgeoning Federal debt, a tanked economy, a near meltdown of the financial system, and the vast known/suspected/alleged criminality during his administration, only those who are aware of those crimes and have the authority to pursue prosecution of those crimes, but inexplicably choose not to do so, are the only ones likely to be kind to junior. :-)

18. The only ways that will happen is either if the repubs write the history books or
if an even worse president comes along. The last one is almost impossible to imagine.

They'll transform Chimpy into the second coming of Christ (they'll have to demote Reagan to "Ron the Baptist" first)
