John Cornyn, Pile of Sh*t-Texas, says there'll be "fireworks" if Obama nominates an "idealogue"
Republicans Urge Obama to Avoid ‘Ideologue’ for Court (Update1)
By Laura Litvan

April 9 (Bloomberg) -- Republican senators said President Barack Obama should avoid naming an “ideologue” to succeed John Paul Stevens on the U.S. Supreme Court, hinting at a possible fight to replace the retiring justice.

“I don’t know whether they will show any self-restraint or whether they will just try to jam through an ideologue, which of course would provoke a lot of fireworks,” Senator John Cornyn, a Texas Republican on the Judiciary Committee, said in an interview.

Stevens, a leader of the court’s liberal wing, announced today he will step down when the high court term ends around the beginning of July. Obama’s first Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor, was confirmed by the Senate last year with just nine Republican votes.

Senator Charles Schumer, a New York Democrat, signaled the stakes will be high even if Obama’s nominee doesn’t shift the balance on the closely divided court.

The departure of Stevens, who turns 90 on April 20, is “worrisome” at a time of rapid change in America, Schumer said.

“We hope the president will choose a candidate who both merits consensus support and lives up to Justice Stevens’s fine legacy,” Schumer said in a statement. “We hope both sides of the aisle in the Senate would quickly confirm such a nominee.” .........(more)

1. Ideologue=anyone who isn't a member of the Federalist Society
Obama could nominate John Marshall himself and these knobs would still pitch a fit.

6. Go fuck a box turtle, Cornyn.
The last 4 Repuke nominees (Opie, Sammy the Fish, Fat Tony, and Clarence the Clown) were all corporatist/Opus Dei/right wing extremist "ideologues". Scalia (like Poppy Bush himself) was literally the son of a fascist!

Now sit down and shut the fuck up, turtle fucker. :grr:

14. Cornyn is the sort of guy who has already ordered the fireworks and
may have to be physically restrained from setting them off in the weeks before a nominee is announced.

19. Yep, time for the old "upper down vote"
Obama's nominee is just an expression of the Will of the People. It's not up to the minority to dictate the terms to the people's choice. You lost, Sen. Cornyn. Being in the minority is supposed to taste like a shit taco.
