Army giving troops fire-resistant clothing

By Lisa Burgess, Stars and Stripes
Mideast edition, Thursday, May 3, 2007

ARLINGTON, Va. — The Army will send fire-resistant clothes to troops in Iraq and Afghanistan this summer, including a new long-sleeve pullover shirt, officials announced this week.

The clothes are designed to give soldiers an extra layer of protection against fires caused by roadside bombs or rocket-propelled grenades, according to officials from the Army’s Program Executive Office Soldier at Fort Belvoir, Va. This is especially important for those traveling in vehicles or aircraft, where fire can be particularly intense.

The new Army Combat Shirt has a solid green torso and sleeves with the same camouflage pattern as the Army Combat Uniform. Centered on the chest is the Army’s new slogan, “Army Strong.”

Because it is designed to replace the ACU blouse when worn under body armor, the pullover includes seamless shoulders and side panels, to reduce friction against the skin, and sewn-in, anti-abrasion elbow pads.

The shirts also include cargo pockets, infrared identification tabs, and even hook-and-loop fasteners for the American flag shoulder patch soldiers are required to wear when deployed in combat zones.

3. That's why I suggested a sprinkler system; the soldiers are to don
these when it's 120 in the shade over there? :eyes:

2. Why do the Repubs keep coming up with such asinine solutions?
Edited on Thu May-03-07 11:02 AM by EstimatedProphet
Remember how they were going to fix poverty by giving the poor cheese? now they're addressing undersupplied troops by giving them fire-resistant clothing, when they need BODY ARMOR.

It's like they're trying to come up with the stupidest solutions they can, to see if people are watching. I bet their next idea will be Neosporin-filled bullets so that people who get shot will heal faster.
