1978 MA gov. candidate Frank Hatch, the only Republican...
... for whom I've ever voted, dead at 84.

He was running against the odious Ed King -- "My favorite Democratic governor (Reagan) -- an old-school Democratic walrus, who in turn endorsed Reagan in '84. Hatch went independent shortly thereafter.

His 1965 wetlands protection bill was the first in the nation.

His obit reads like a dispatch from a vanished civilization.
