AP: Future pope stalled Calif. pedophile case

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Four years after a California priest and convicted child molester asked to be defrocked, his bishop pleaded with the future Pope Benedict XVI to remove the man from the priest...

"Consider the good of the Universal Church," Ratzinger wrote in a 1985 letter to Oakland Bishop John Cummins. "It is necessary for this Congregation to submit incidents of this sort to very careful consideration, which necessitates a longer period of time."

9. It's a sick & sad foundation to build a world-dominating society upon, isn't it?
Frankly, I'm just hoping it crashes fast enough for me to see it.

4. My fantasy:
Full scale military invasion of the Vatican. Seize all the gold and send it back to Latin America where it was stolen. Seize all church property in the U.S. and turn them into library's, museums, public schools, night clubs, concert hall, something useful. Force the pope to apologize to the entire human race for the multitude of crimes perpetrated by the church over the centuries, including the Inquisition, hiding Nazi's and supporting other assorted fascist's, child rape, child rape cover-ups, fraud, brain washing the masses, scaring the 3rd world out of their condoms, scaring people of their own humanity, Scaring people about their own penis's and vagina's, Rwanda, Bill O'Reilly, retarding Western Civilization, etc etc.

End the entire racket. The Catholic church a dirty relic of the Dark Ages and it needs to go.

17. invasion of the vatican ???
now listen, i do think the churche made a lot off bad decisions but, they do a lot of good 2. If the church wasn't there, lesser people could reed, eat live. They do have to apologize, and take a huge step forward. Oh and the fascist's and nazi thing, they already apologized. So to be totally honest, it's again, people fault, not the general idea.
and one Little thing next, stop talking of invading countries. America has done more to fuck this world up then the vatican trying to save it.
Like it or not its the truth
(my version anyway )

21. The good they do in no way excuses the bad. The good can be done without the church.
As long as there is a Catholic Church there will be atrocities. It is not a democratic organization. I resent that my tax dollars subsidize that church.

23. Exactly
Pointing out that the church has done some good is like pointing out the fact that Hitler made the trains run on time.

25. i disagree ,
they did a lot of good,
catholic schools are still the highest rated in the world.
they take care of the week and needy
i know for a fact, that if you haven't somewhere to sleep
church will lend you a bed
and the ten commandments, forget those about god
you have:
you may not steal
you may not kill
you may not say bad things
honor your parents
...
that's all good shit, if everybody would live like that
it would be grate? don't you think

and there is a difference between church and hitler
church at least tries to be good

18. Lol. Since we are doing tough talk today:
I heard that those swiss guards are the toughest badasses of the world. I doubt that the US military could take the Vatican without laying half of Rome to ruins and taking heavy casualties in the process.
