Does being called an unpatriotic traitor piss you off or make you laugh? |
|
Edited on Thu May-03-07 12:29 PM by Philosoraptor
Here lately it just makes me laugh, although I must confess, that little insult worked on me the first few times. I've never been the patriotic type anyway, waving flags don't inspire me and the national anthem never moved me to tears, I don't stand for pledges and as far as being a traitor, I'm not aware of any outright traitorous acts I've engaged in.
So when a republican screams these lame insults in your face while spitting, it's best to just chuckle, they really, really hate that.
Of course these assholes always say these things from behind the safety of a microphone or on the senate floor. Why Democrats don't walk across and smack their faces or at least laugh in them is beyond me.
When they call ALL us liberals or anti war people unpatriotic traitors from a safe place, they ARE saying it to our faces, and we should either laugh or get righteously pissed.

46. Agree with both; it makes me scornful and suspicious |
|
Scornful because people who engage in such black and white, us 'n them type thinking are usually willfully ignorant, lazy sheeple - and suspicious, because people who engage in that sort of thinking are also usually very fearful, hate-filled willfully ignorant sheeple who will eagerly herd together in mob mentality if one of them gets a loud enough voice after awhile.
Just because they're stupid doesn't mean they can't be dangerous - with enough frustration (and a heapin' helpin' of liquid courage coupled with some armament of some sort) they'll go hunting down someone to "blow off some steam". And damn the law - to them it was "written by lib'rul sissies to protect bad guys" anyway.
When you hear them mouth off, they're starting to make dominance posturing noises. Gotta watch to see which way they'll trend - is there enough of them out there that they'll start acting out, or is this just hooting for attention and perhaps to see if there's like minded boobs out there?

Frequently, you'll also hear things like "We used to hang traitors in this country."
So if some freeper scumbag calls me a traitor, I keep my eyes open. That and I call him a coward, because he's not saying what he really wants to say - "I want to kill you for your beliefs."

It's hard to imagine a grown adult using the words "traitor" and "defeatocrats" in a conversation. But then there's a lot of feebs here at DU who keep on typing "*" because apparently typing out the word Bush would hurt their feelings in some way.
So I guess immaturity is bipartisan.

On right wings blogs and through their radical on air personalities these people have time and again threatened us and declared us enemies of "their" America.
It's easy to brush it off and laugh, but every time you hear this hate speech they are fueling the militant fundamentalists of their party and they know it. This small percent will not hesitate to physically attack us.

And I usually just reply that it is because I love this country so much - the idea of it, the promise of it - that I am still here, fighting for it. If I were an unpatriotic traitor, I would have left a long time ago...
In much the same way that it pisses me off that because of my pro-choice stance, people have called me a "baby killer" and accused me of hating families. My reply is much the same. It is because I love babies so much that I fight for each one of them to be wanted, not forced into existence by someone else's ideology.
One thing I give the Repubs credit for is their mastery at assigning labels and making them stick. (About the only thing I give them credit for, and only based on its success rate...)

|
coming from the people who are attempting to smear us with it. The most traitorous and unpatriotic of Americans are those who would strive with all their might to eradicate all that has been given us by the founders of this country.
Selling out our country for private gain, pleading how AMERICAN they are while cheering on the disposal of our Rights, one by one, allowing our jobs to go to the lowest bidder, at the expense of our workers, allowing demagoguery to take the place of true governance, exporting their view of Democracy while making sure that our freedoms and security are depleted here, all this and more shows, beyond all doubt, that THEY are the un-patriotic and un-American citizens among us!
So, as to whether I laugh or get angry is a moot point. There is no TRUTH in those who would attempt such slander.

I really can't stand that bullshit. Calling people who disagree with you "traitors" is the same damn shit the Nazis did in their rise to power. The petty, small-minded fucksocks who hurl charges of treason around are the same sort of scum who would have been wearing brown shirts in 1930s Germany. These are the same general type of people who beat Matthew Shepard to death and dragged James Byrd behind a truck.
Ironically, I don't catch much flak, and I'm in Florida. For some reason, freepers just aren't inclined to mouth off to the 6'2", 250 lb nutcase unless they can do it from the safety of a fast-moving car.

LynzM and I were on a road trip to NH, and passing through Mass. we had a guy at a gas station pull up to our car as he was leaving and scream at us how we were "fucking traitors". I just got back in the car and he motioned for me to roll the window down (I guess he thought I couldn't hear him screaming at the top of his lungs...).
