1. If there are zero Republican votes, nobody gets confirmed.
Fillibuster. We need at least one of them for cloture.

2. Yup--and in my ideal SCOTUS there is no politics.
As I said in another thread, justice has an inherent liberal bias anyway; that's why he (a self-identified Republican, IIRC) was such a great justice.

3. If a nominees background is that unpalatable...
that they would fail to get even one Repub vote... then the odds are pretty good that they'd
also fail in getting the votes of a few Blue Dogs as well.
